Hi I love to crochet. I guess it's probably my favorite hobby. I love to read too, but admittedly mostly read in the evenings before bed while I could crochet for hours and hours most days. I make a lot of different things, but probably my favorite things to make are baby items (sweaters, afghans, etc.) for nieces and nephews as well as friends' babies, and also toys. I have really gotten into the "amigurumi" trend that is so popular in the crochet world. It's fun to make cute little animals! Who else likes to crochet?
Hey, @Diana Kristof . I crochet too. I haven't been crocheting very long but I'm into hat and scarf sets mostly and donate them to the Salvation Army in the Fall. I have been accumulating how to books to learn different stitches just for fun. I love to browse Joanne Fabrics to see all the new colors and combination blends but most of my inventory is found at estate sales and thrift stores.
Hi Diane - its a great pastime, a friend in the 60s crocheted a fab dress for me, it was, in a word - 'groovy'
I like to get my yarn at yard sales too, when I can! I found a big box of cotton crochet thread this summer. I'm still trying to decide exactly what to do with it. I mighty end up making some flower brooches and motifs. Making hats to donate is a great idea. I often see people posting photos of things like premie hats that they make to donate to hospitals.
I had thought about that but the hospitals here have strict policies these days. Big business here but I can see it happening for smaller towns. I have sold sets to co-workers at their request and a few at the flea market I sometimes set up at. I've been told that I should sell them for more but I just like that they are pleased with what I have created.
@Diana Kristof - I had a hat too, it was lovely - one day I was on a bus that had a sun roof, off went me hat into the distance Stop the bus, says I - it was me and the bus driver running after it - we got it
Von, yes, the regulations for some things are frustrating. I have run across such problems with donating to certain charitable organizations for Christmas too. Sadly it seems like often the government goes too far with trying to police safety such that many good deeds are either punished or simply not achieved at all. I think that there is a line between keeping people safe with regulated, tested products and just letting people figure it out. I think that line is common sense. But I guess that's why I'm not in government.
I do too. My last project was the "Prairie Schooner Rabbits. Two families of bunnies for my granddaughters.
Hello and welcome to @Diana Kristof and @Marilyn Pahl. I seemed to have missed welcoming both of you. I don't crochet because of RA in my hands and I have cataracts, so it's hard for me to see the close up stitches. But I do plead and beg my friend @Yvonne Smith to make me her nice comfy warm socks. I asked her to use all her little left over yarns to make them. You know, like crazy quilts. I don't want any of the socks to match, that way it doesn't matter what socks I pull on. I do have a 48" ridged heddle loom that I weave blankets, 4'X 7' on. I donate them to the permanent residents at the VA Hospital. Most people don't realize that are veterans that never get to go home do to permanent disabilities, and most of them have no one to care for them, so they get forgotten. They have so little property of there own, that the look on their faces is all I need to keep at it.
Hi Ina, Thank-You for the warm welcome. Two of my granddaughters live in Andrews, Texas close to the New Mexico boarder. I love crocheting. can use a B hook, but can't handle the steel hooks. My eyes won't take it. For the past week I've misplaced my good set of hooks. Last night I went on line and ordered a new set from Amazon. These hooks were, Amour....by Clover soft handle, and light as a feather. Don't know if it's true but was told they were made out of light weight titanium they use on airplanes. My hands cramp up but haven't had trouble when using these hooks. If by miracle my old set turns up, I'll save for oldest granddaughter.
Today was Tourist Day for us me and Pip (youngest son) Went to do things tourists do, shop, take a little tour, eat out. We wound up at Michel's Hobby & Craft store. I bought a wooden crochet hook that is, 50/US 25.00 MM. And a skien of Chunky Grande Yarn, by Loops & Thread, it was on clearance. Pip bought a few things for shadow boxes he's setting up for his girls (Texas). We went to Tin City and bought Florida sand, some shells, sharks teeth, and a couple of gator teeth. Now it's time to kick off shoes, a tall glass of iced black tea with sliced rounds of oranges.
I like to crochet too, but no time to crochet these days. I've never heard of amigurumi...so I went to research it a little. Crocheting animals is so cute! Here is a site that has all sorts of free amigurumi patterns. http://www.allfreecrochet.com/Crochet-Amigurumi-Patterns. This site is from the United Nations, I understand with just a click you can help Veterans: http://theveteranssite.greatergood.com/clickToGive/vet/home
This is the yarn, and hook I bought today. A woman from the Ukraine, works with big jumbo hooks and chunky yarn. She was more then making pet beds. Just seen, she and her daughter, on once on their web site. The stitches are the size of those jumbo pretzels.
These Christmas trees were done for a charity project. We were surprised much was sold. The stitch for the leaves is the alligator stitch. I made my own cones with poster paper.
