I don't have any real problems with arthritis, but my mother has orthodpedic problems. I can tell though I don't have a lot of cartilige left in my knee. Since I don't have any aches and pains, I don't worry about it much, but if it does hurt at all I pop a glucosamine, that does the trick. I would like to take some medication as a preventative though. If I could head arthitis off at the pass, maybe I won't suffer like my mother.
Anyone here hear of, or use/have used Swanson Herbal Joint Care? The reviews of these gel tabs are pretty excellent. Suppose to be great for joint care and osteoarthritis pain. Thinking about ordering a bottle of 120 for $13. Since this product has Glucosamine Sulfate in it (not as much mg though), I'd stop taking the Glucosamine Sulfate I'm currently taking. There is also MSN and Chondroitin in the product.
Well, decided to order a bottle of the Swanson Herbal Joint Care Gel Tablets. Will stop taking my Glucosamine Sulfate tablets since it's in the new stuff I'll be getting. Will continue drinking hot Green Tea a few times a week. And, not just because I need to due to being a Diabetic II, but have to really watch my intake of sugary foods. Actually, I think my "achy pain" problems in my shoulder, are stemming from being a Diabetic II, my age and quite possibly the osteoarthritis in the shoulder. I'm definitely getting a second opinion about my last MRI on the shoulder.
I'm starting to think my shoulder pain stems from a nerve in my neck. After I get my hair washed at those salon hair washing chairs...my shoulder will hurt for almost a week. At home I think it happens if I sleep wrong on my pillow. I've never hurt my shoulder and x rays showed nothing but periodically it will hurt for about a week and hurts so bad that my pain pill plus Advil do nothing. Then it goes away. I've had this for years now...maybe 7....seems to happen more frequently lately though. Should get an MRI one of these days.
Just a suggestion, you should get an MRI sooner rather than later. As we all get older, we just can't afford to wait to see exactly what the problem is. I just thank God that my VA doctor knows that I had my rotator cuff surgery outside the VA and knows about my pain. She is helping with that pain, whereas the surgeon won't. He knows about my pain, but.
Glucosamine seems to work quite well with my cats. I tried glucosamine capsules for about a month a couple of years ago and didn't notice any difference. The only place I have arthritis is in my fingers, though. Maybe some in my neck but I couldn't bear another diagnosis at this point in my life.
After my last MRI, I was commended by the nurse at how still I kept inside the machine. Unlike my first MRI, before surgery, I didn't have any music to listen to and had to listen to the "ticking" noise. All I kept thinking was, "can't wait until this is over". A cool cloth was laid over my eyes. The first MRI was done by the VA and I had headphones put on my head/ears and was listening to Country music. For the MRI I had in Colorado (right shoulder), I was given Contrast liquid in my shoulder. It was done with a needle and the nurse moved the needle, so very slightly, around. I could feel pressure when she was doing it. This was the first MRI I ever had and was able to stay perfectly still for this one as well.
As I have stated, my former Doctor took x-rays of my hands. When he showed me, we discussed them. I asked him point blank, if my hands would someday look like James Coburn's or John Carradine's. The amount of time it took for him to answer, WAS the answer. I can tell you, that has never left my thinking. Nothing I can really do.
I had a full MRI, meaning I was totally in that chamber in 1995-96. Not sure exactly when but it was when I was having panic attacks and was convinced I had a brain tumor. To reassure me my dr ordered an MRI, but I was pretty doped up for that one....no brain tumor and that helped with my panic attacks. Last one was a MRI of my elbow and I wasn't in a full chamber but I was at a bad angle and in terrible pain and knew if I moved I'd have to start over...so I was still....that turmed out to be a ganglion cyst and I was on an NSAID For a year. Then it went away. I couldn't even bend my arm. Now, when I have to sit still...I can't. My nose starts to itch, etc.... I'm not claustrophobic and the noise didn't bother me at all on my first one. So, for the shoulder you don't have to be in the long tube? Are they different now? PS...my Dr that I had during my panic attack phase was awesome. He knew I didn't have a brain tumor and for insurance to cover my MRI he had to say he suspected one. He told me when I filled out the questions to say I had headaches and nausea.
I was inside the thing up to my knees, I believe. I remember they put my shoulder in this hard plastic thing and I had stabilizing supports on each side of me and one under my shoulder. I was darn glad when it was over and remembered that I had told myself "never again" after the VA Medical one I had. But, had to know how my shoulder looked after last March 2015 surgery.
