http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-09-29/transmission-tower-bent-over-in-south-australia/7890674 Here is a picture of the cause of our power failure ,now questions are being asked if the towers were built using a cheap imported steel which has been proved to be faulty in major building priojects
I Chee WHA WHA!!! looks like several were hit too.. now will China get blamed for its weak steel, i wonder? i say make them(China) pay for new ones that are NOT made in China..!!
What's very annoying to us Aussies is we have a steel plant in Whyalla that employes 3000 people its on the verge of shutting down with a loss of all those jobs because of the cheap rubbish we are importing into this country, There are fairly new multi story appartments up the Gold Coast that will have to demolished because of faulty Chinese steel ..residents paid up to $1 million dollars for each apartment
Oh My Cod,! well something needs to be done and now maybe because this has happened ,it will bring light to the eyes of everyone not to deal with china anymore!
When we went to the Bahamas, I bought a pretty coffee mug. The first time I used it, it got cracks in the porcelain. I remembered what I had read about Chinese manufacturers having lead in their products. I was afraid to use it. I threw it in the trash. Now I try not to buy anything made in China.
Good thing you tossed it Shirley.. your coffee cup incident reminded me of one time I got a neat coffee cup for Christmas from a friend and it said "Life is just a chair full of bowlies." and it had a little picture of a chair wth a bowl full of cherries, on it, anywho,.. I filled it with water cuz I wanted a cup of hot tea so I put it in our microwave , when it was hot I grabbed the handle and the handle just snapped right off, I was so mad! I liked that cup too, ended up keeping it anyway for a place to put my rubberbands in.. . but yep it was made in China..!!
I must tell you a true story..... I went to my garage to have my snow tires installed last year and while I was waiting, someone walked in to the garage asking about some snow tires.. The owner showed him some different tires and the customer noticed that one of the tires was made in China.. The owner said "pretty much everything now days is made in China".. The customer answered by saying he was made in China.. The owner asked what he meant and he told us the true story that his parents years ago were on a business trip to Saigon in China and during the trip, he was conceived.. He was "Made in China".....
We didn't have any internet ,home or mobile phones working for about 24 hours ,until about half an hour ago ,due to damage caused by storms ..I went into town 4 km away from where I live ,for a few groceries ,because they didn't have phones / internet either and the majority of people pay via credit card ,it was a real hassle for many ,as not many carry cash ( I've seen that by volunteering at museum the amount of people that come in expecting to pay with their card ,and we don't have that option at the national trust ) And we are forecast to have another deluge of rain AGAIN next weekend . We change our time ,one hour AHEAD ...tonight...... ( daylight saving runs from now till next April)
Good gosh Kate.. I hope you are OK after that experience.. We up here have some snow storms in winter that maroon us at home for days sometimes, so I kind of know what you are going through.. We are prepared for it with food and the necessities we need, but in your case, it hit suddenly without much notice and you didn't know how bad it would be.. Our situation is a bit different as we are notified by the local weather forecast that a bruiser storm is coming within the next day.. We have time to prepare for it.. Take care and keep in touch when you can.....................................
We knew the wild weather was coming ,but no one could have forecast the damage it caused ,like blowing over the huge power line pylons and rivers breaking their banks from having so much water flowing through creeks/ and rivers that have been bone dry for up.to 50 years . The main highway 1..that leads up to where I live ,is flooded right now from the previous dry rivers busting their banks .I have lived in SA for 40+ years and never seen water in that large dry area http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-10-...ginia-under-threat-as-sa-rivers-burst/7894694
gosh, Kate our state of Texas and other states have had record breaking winds and floods this year too. I think we get it first then you get it, it always seems to beheading southeast after it comes from the south west. .. there has been a lot of Weather related records broken lately this year all around the world , seems like.. hope we don't see it again soon either,,
