Southern Maine had a minor snow storm last night and today, but it looks like we've missed that, as we haven't had any here. We're supposed to have very little snow for the next week, and even a day or two of above-freezing temperatures. That should help.

We had very nasty weather here on the central coast yesterday. Wind and rain so bad that the junior high was cancelled and the grandson in HS didn't leave til 10:00 a.m.

Then the power went out for most of the day but the 13 yr old grandson and I played a few games of chess. I taught him many years ago and he's pretty darn good.

He had golf lessons today at the country club in the afternoon but that's been cancelled...the country club is closed!!

This is the worst weather I've seen in 14 years here.

The huge storm has crossed CA and now hovers over the Tri-State area, where the "point' of NV meets CA and AZ, our neck of the woods. Rained some overnight, not much, but the wind was ferocious, waking me up 3 or 4 times, roaring in the vent above the stove in the kitchen. Our orange tree looks ravaged.

I am now at the Edgewater Hotel. The street off which lies it's entry road runs downhill from the west for a distance of at least 1/2 mile. When a good rain happens, the runoff comes roaring down that hill, crosses Casino Drive, and winds up congregating near the entrance doors. Last big rain, parked cars' tires were buried in 6 inches of muddy sand! This time, they placed 4 of those low concrete barricades like line construction zones, in two pairs to divert the flow, making it necessary for incoming cars to zig-zag around them. Prepared like never before, but so far, no deluge. The place is very busy this weekend especially, due to some giveaways, for one of which my wife is standing in line downstairs, 45 minutes before they open up. She said by the time it opens, the line may be clear around to the entrance, as we saw it yesterday. It's "Mardi Gras Riverwalk" weekend. Not rained out (yet).

I saw reports of toppled trees blocking roads here, some of my grandsons friends who have wooden fences also had them topple.

The fence around my daughter's property is decorative concrete so that won't topple.

After the weather died down a little, there were 8 deer in her backyard...most I've seen at once here.

IMG_0366.JPG I managed to capture a pic of 5 of them before Pickles saw them and started barking...

The one is by the entrance to the putting green and the 4 or 5 are standing on the hill that goes up towards the next door neighbors house.

We haven't had snow in a couple of weeks and, in fact, we had several days of above-freezing weather, and even some rain, so we lost quite a bit of our snow, although we still have a couple of feet of it on the ground. However, tomorrow we're supposed to have snow again. I don't think it'll be a snow storm or anything but we're scheduled for snow showers.

We are in Portland, Maine right now, and they have very little snow on the ground here. In fact, Bangor has very little snow on the ground and that's only 60-70 miles away from Millinocket, but it has been snowing all day today in Millinocket, and is supposed to be snowing for the next few days. Oh well, the saying is: March: In like a lion, out like a lamb.

@Ken Anderson " March: In like a lion, out like a lamb."

One can hope. The "land of sunshine" is so deviously deceptive here, that today we had a low this morning of 50`, high of nearly 90`, while only 180 miles eastward, the last few mornings have recorded lows below 20`! Amazing contrast in such close proximity.

I have that difference in weather all summer with my daughter. We will be 110 in Fresno and 150 miles towards the coast it's only in the 70's.

It's also neat when I'm driving to see exactly where the temps fall...it's a spot in Holister.

We were, this weekend, going to prepare our boat for boating season, but next week's forecast for two days is temps at 6AM to be 35 and 32. Daytime temps will be some 12 degrees below our March normal average. By the next weekend (18/19) we will be at normal average. If that happens, will then prepare boat. Right now, there is no water in the engine block. We want to make sure our weather stays warm before starting the engine, which means putting water in the block.
