Good morning, it's a gloomy one here with rain and gales about to start, so will stay indoors all warm and cosy and imagine sunny days................ Enjoy your Saturday......
Good morning everyone, sunny and warm here and today is the coolest day at 80..it's all going up, up, up in the next week. Think today would be my day for going outside and cleaning off the back patio after winter. Basically just hose it all down. Finally allowed to have sprinklers on because summer schedule starts today and goes til Dec.1. Enjoy your weekend, I can send some sun and warmth to anybody that needs it.
A very Good Morning to you all, it's brighter than forecast this morning, it's hair dyeing (henna) day for Lisa, so we will not go anywhere till later if we do venture out. It's forecast to be a warm sunny day tomorrow (Monday) .......so we plan to go to Lisa's dacha (summer house) and open it up for the season, it's in Sosnovo about 70 Km north of here, an hour or so on the train...... Have a peaceful relaxing Sunday.....
It was a dark and stormy night.....And I loved it. I like to see and hear the thunder and lightning. It started about 3 pm and is still raining but the lightning flashes are less frequent now. Although I love storms, I don't like the damage they can cause. I hope everyone in the storm's path is safe.
We are supposed to have thunderstorms moving in this afternoon, too. I just looked at the weather radar map, and I can see that Arkansas is definitely having storms, and it is just now coming into the Memphis area. It should get here around 4pm according to the weather people, and the main part arrives later at night, and goes through the night. Both Bobby and I like watching thunderstorms come through, as long as they are not destructive ones. After going through the terrible tornadoes here in 2011, we definitely do not like to see reports that there might be tornadoes in the storms.
We just got the alert for the tornado watch, @Patsy Faye . This does not mean that any tornadoes are spotted, it just means that conditions are right for a tornado to form. It looks like a heavy line of thunderstorms coming in, and should hit here in about an hour. Thankfully, we live in the part of town that does not seem to be heaviest hit when storms come through. Most of them go either north or south of us, almost like there is a route that they follow, because they usually seem to go across the same places each time. Normally, we do not get anything worse than a heavy downfall of rain and some wind, and sometimes do not even have a thunderstorm, just rain. It is one of the unique customs here in the southern states that whenever there is a storm, everyone runs to the grocery store and buys milk, bread and eggs. Many times, the whole shelves will be empty and bare because of the run on these foods. So........I guess that I should do my part as a loyal (but transplanted) Southerner, and go to the store for those life-saving supplies before they are all gone. Just joking, but I am all out of milk to make the kefir, and I don't want to drive in the rain, so I am going to run down to Kroger and hope that they do still have some milk on the shelves.
Some areas just don't get hit even though they get the warnings....my son lives is such an area and he was telling me that their neighbor's son who studied meteorology at college told him that they live in a pocket that will probably never get a tornado...or at least very unlikely. He told me the reason for this but I forget... They still go to the basement when the sirens sound but so far nothing.
That is probably what happens here, too, @Chrissy Cross , although I like to tease Robin and tell her that the Redstone Arsenal has an invisible bubble over top of it, and that is why the storms miss this area and seem to split with north or south when they get to our area. The storms are past us now, and except for some strong wind and heavy rain, we didn't have much else right here. The news is reporting that there are trees down and also power lines in some areas. Our electricity went out, but it was back on in about 2 minutes; so it was not any kind of a problem here either. Apparently, they have had some bad storms in both Arkansas and also in Missouri, but I have not heard anything specific for either of those areas either.
