We watch tv a lot. Weekday evenings and weekends. If we aren't watching tv, we have a dvd movie in the Blu-Ray Player.

Anyway, a show called The Carmichael Show, which is partly Produced by Jerrod Carmichael, one of two sons in the show. We watched the first season of it last year and it got renewed for another season. The show discusses current issues in a very humorous/comical way. Last night we watch two episodes of the new season and literally laugh our butts off. Thing is, a person has to have a terrific sense of humor to watch this show. All, but one, of the family is black. The one son's girlfriend is half black/half white. Last season, we were introduced to her white father.

Another show that is starting for the first time is Little Big Shots: Forever Young. It's a spinoff of Little Big Shots but with old people.

America's Got Talent (or AGT) is back on. Nick Cannon is no longer hosting. Tyra Banks is the new host. On the first night of auditions, a 12 year old ventriloquist literally shocks the judges and audience. Mel B. liked this 12 year girl so much, she hit her Golden Button to put the girl straight thru to the Live shows. The girl made her doll/bunny sing a song so good it was unbelievable.

So, if you are into watching tv, like we are, check these three shows out.

Well, like the old saying goes........."you don't know what you are missing" or perhaps you do (know what you're not missing).

@Cody Fousnaugh , I don't think I've heard of the Carmichael Show, but then until recently, tv was only background noise for me. My husband, Michael, was the tv buff, and I was the book reader. The only recreational reading my husband did concerned Star Wars or Star Trek. Our youngest son, Michael, was into both tv and reading.

Now I find myself watching tv more and more these days, and they are generally shows I remember both of them watching. Somehow I find comfort in knowing that I am laughing, wondering, or maybe even feeling emotions that they did while they were watching their old favorites.

So I'll check out the Carmichael Show if it is showing around here, and any other uplifting comedies you might suggest. I find that I do like The Big Bang Show, and I really like the science and history channels too.

I've never heard of The Carmichael Show either. What network is it on? I don't get any premium channels.

I have expanded basic cable and the jerks keep taking channels away. In my opinion to bully people into buying higher tiers. Cable is all I can have at the apartment.

The talent shows cause me anxiety. I always worry people will be put down and criticized. May sound strange to some but that's what happens watching those shows. I do watch The Amazing Race and the Project Runway shows though and they eliminate people.

I watch TV and have it on for the company. I know it's wasteful but I do.

Ellen DeGeneres was a judge on American Idol for one season. She quit after that season saying "I don't like criticizing people for anything". Well, to be a judge in anything, the person has to, it's a must, criticize people as well as praise them.

Oh, and BTW, watching tv is not wasteful. Unfortunately, tv is the only entertainment some folks have.

I really like Blue Bloods and on Thursday's it's Blue Blood day on the ION channel. I also like SVU and on Saturday it's SVU day on the ION channel. I still like Madam Secretary which comes on on Sunday nights over here...but usually am asleep by the time it comes on...so hopefully one day they will have a day for Madam Secretary episodes on the ION channel too. For all the new episodes of Blue Blood and SVU I'm already sleeping too by the time they air. This part of getting older is not much to my liking but the good thing is with aging I seem to mind less that I can't stay up to watch these shows too. :)

We were really shocked last night when we watch the latest episode of The Carmichael's. In my opening post, I said that this is a black family, where the one son's girlfriend is half black/half white and the show is hilarious to watch. People really have to have a great sense of humor to watch shows like this.

Anyway, last night the controversy was over using the "n" word and the mother receiving a book about Jackie Kennedy. The mother wondered why her son, and his girlfriend, gave her this book talking about a white woman. The "n" word came in when the family took the mother to an upper-class white restaurant. The one son shook hands with the white male host, whom he knew, and the host called him the "n" word jokingly. The son took it as a joke, but the rest of the family wondered why he didn't say something to the host about the word. Actually, the son's girlfriend was pretty upset about the whole thing. The son kept telling him not to take the word so seriously. They ended up leaving this restaurant and going to, what appeared to be, an all black nice restaurant. This restaurant didn't look as nice though and the mother stated that. The restaurant didn't have the sparkling water and soft bread the other did. The end of the show was the mother saying, "you brought me here, among all of these ("n" word).

To say the least, we were shocked about the topic.

    What do you think?

We watch very little regular tv. We did watch this show a few mintues last night and switched channel's before the N word came up. Personally I hate the word.Having a bi racial family I can tell you they use the N word amongest themselves as some sort of endearment. They do not like it when straight white people use it.
I would possibly handle that word n shows depending on the context being used...I find it better than the F word which is so over used on tv and everywhere. There is an art to cursing...and most people can not curse properly :)

We record and watch the show every week.
Heck, we remember how George Jefferson "The Jefferson's" referred whites as "honkies" on the show. Also remember when Sammy Davis Jr. surprised Archie Bunker by kissing him on the cheek in and episode of All In The Family.

I totally agree @Gloria Mitchell. I have a bi-racial granddaughter, African American and English, and I am Native American and German. As a child growing up here in Texas, there were way too many times I heard, "The only good Indian is a dead Indian", or "All Germans are Nazis". All of it is meant to cause pain and be disrespectful.

So many tv shows back then promoted these stereotypes back in the 50's and 60's.

I remember the George Lopez show where he made fun of Mexican and Hispanic people. I just laughed and continued watching the show.

Anyway, there are black comedians that say jokes about their race and say the "n" right on stage.

Gotta have a sense of humor to watch these shows, of which wife and I both definitely have.

Don't have the humor or don't like the topic of these shows, simply don't watch them.

@Cody Fousnaugh " I remember the George Lopez show where he made fun of Mexican and Hispanic people."

Along similar lines, a character actor named J. Carroll Naish played an Italian immigrant in a series called "Life With Luigi". Naish was amazing in his ability to talk broken English precisely as an Italian would, even though he was Irish! We loved that show!
    Frank

"The action centered on Luigi Basco and his experiences as a newly arrived Italian immigrant in Chicago."
"Although it enjoyed high ratings,[5] the show was pulled because of pressure from the Italian-American community....."
