At my appointment today to have yet another Basal Cell Cancer removed by my Dermatologist.
I walked into the office and there was a elderly woman sitting next to a younger blonde woman. Both seemed vaguely familiar. I had dated the older woman after the death of my first wife and never knew she was eight years older than me. The younger blonde woman was her daughter and I remembered her, but not her mother. The daughter told me her mother would be 90 next month.
I about fell over and hoped that I at 82 was aging better than she because she looked 110.

I don't really care how my mother would have looked at 90, only wish she would have made it. I'm sure this woman was happy to be 90 and didn't care if she looked 110!

I'm sorry Lon but that's really superficial....some people age better than others and at 90...who cares?

Got to agree with Chrissy here. Never mind how she looked. I wonder how she felt. I knew a man who lived to 97, died suddenly and was living on his own up until then. That's what matters.

Chrissy---My post was not mean't to demean any one's aging process. I had not seen this woman for 30 years and was merely shocked, besides, I remember her as being a very self absorbed & vain woman.

My Wife's Mom turned 91 in January. She looks the same as I remember her 20 years ago! She still drives herself the 12 miles to town for Bingo, senior center, cards, etc. Only negative thing my wife notes is her Mom is becoming more and more forgetful. What could one expect?

Ill health plays its part on how we age, I'm not vain but I do make the effort, most days
Life can be very hard going and can take its toll on us, keep the smile and the years will fall away :)

Well, @Lon Tanner, I do understand what you are talking about. I have a classmate, that I graduated with from high school in 1968, that, him and his wife, look old enough to be our (wife/I) parents. I was totally shocked when I seen a picture of them the first time on FB. Because they didn't use hair coloring and had totally white hair, they looked so much older than we do.

Thing is, it simply doesn't bother some folks to look/be old, while others try to look younger and, of course, act younger.

Some people show their age and some people even act their age. Some look older and some act younger. I probably show my age but act younger when I play judo with some 25 year old I win but the next day I get to feel all those pains because I did not act my age.

Sometimes it can be quite a shock when you have a picture of how someone looks in your mind and when you see that person years later they look nothing like that picture in your mind. :)

Funny, but I have some high school classmates that look darn near the same as graduation in '68. Facial looks and hair style. Then, some others I'd never recognize. Most of them think that way about me. I look nothing like I did back them, other than my height.

I have been told many times I do not look my age.....well least from the neck down.
I explained it to my customers this way: fat ..... you have fat on your bones in order to spread out the wrinkling process..besides I harvest fat tissue for the skinny ones...they can tranplant fat anywhere nowdays:p

I know what you mean, @Lon Tanner -- it's just surprising sometimes to see how different people have aged. I have no reservations acknowledging that I have aged but I am surprised sometimes, when I come across someone my age, or even younger, who I haven't seen in fifty years, who seem so much older than I think of myself as being.

My face is 66 years old too....so this is what 66 years old looks like on my face. :) I think the only thing that would shock the people I went to school with now is that I have long hair at 66. I always wore my hair really short all during High School and for a good part of my life. So if I went to a Class Reunion they probably would be a little surprised by this.
