I kinda went off the deep end today. A local branch of a nationwide store has a great sale on. One item was a Nordic Track E11.7 Elliptical exercise machine so I went over and bought it and they loaded into my van (just barely!). The thing is 80" long plus the packing material and weighs about 300 pounds. I picked up my son who is a big strong guy and together we got it onto the deck and unpacked then moved it inside to our back room that is starting to look more like a commercial gym. I put it together this afternoon.

I'm facing another winter with nothing much to do but read or play on the computer. I don't care for outdoor sports so I thought something like this would be good for me and perhaps I'll get into better shape than I am now. I'm also concerned about my A1C numbers rising. I know I can burn off a little excess blood sugar with exercise.

Tonight I tried it out while watching the news. I put it on the lowest settings and could only stand it for a couple of minutes before moving to the exercise bike. As soon as the pain subsided, I went back to it for a few minutes and I went back and forth for a half hour. I'll bet I'll be sore tomorrow! I hope to gradually increase my time on it.

We don't get much exercise during our so-called "winters" here in northeastern Florida, but some weekends we do go to the Range for some target shooting. But, no matter what type of enjoyable exercise we get........going to the Range or taking out our boat (boat, in spring/summer months), we can get some muscle pain afterwards.

Neither of us are into exercise equipment, but have the Wii Game to get exercise when it's rainy and/or too cool-cold outside.

My exercise bike died immediately after my first night's workout with it and the new machine. I think it died out of Jealousy! Mechanically it still works but the electronics died so now it has no resistance settings and since it used an electrical brake for resistance, I can't add any resistance, it's just a spinner now.

Yesterday I managed to get in a few minutes at a time until I eventually got in 30 minutes on the Nordic Track. Lot of sore muscles today though! I noticed that my blood sugar levels are lower than they have been for a long time. At least I'm making progress in the right direction. [IMG]

I'm off and on with the combo elliptical/bike I bought quite awhile back. Can't seem to get any regular routine going with it though I hope I will beable to one day. Right now it probably is more of a clothes rack than an exercise machine. :)

And if I'm too lazy to dust it, then I definitely too lazy to use it.

As I mentioned before, I'm not able to use it for too long at a time but I'm improving, yesterday; a ten minute session and two 15 minute sessions for a total of 40 minutes.

I get bored after 3 minutes...don't know how long I can actually do it because I always quit.

Yes, I have that problem too. I have to watch TV while I'm exercising. If I can get really involved in a news story or any program, I focus on the TV show and mindlessly exercise. Commercial breaks are the worst! Then I focus on my hurts and efforts rather than the TV.

Another thing I've learned is that I was trying to work too fast. Now I slow down to a nice steady pace and I can work for 15 or 20 minutes. I do that three times a day. That works for me and my blood sugar levels are remaining low and that was my goal.

I used to have one and I did use it. Great to multi task by exercising while watching tv.

Once I get settled will definitely buy another one. And the cheap ones work just as well as the fancy ones with all the gadgets.
