    When we were at school in the late 60's..maybe 13 or 14 years old . We wore Navy blue school uniform, but of course we wanted to be fashionable too..so we would wear black patent knee high boots..( not permitted to wear white)... and we were warned that our skirts had to be no shorter than 4 inches above the knee... most of ignored that and our skirts were just long enough to cover our necessary...lol...

    This is a particularly tough one. '50s, I almost blew myself up, in the 8th. grade. Finished high school in 1960, but it was a disastrous journey for a newly puberty-stricken young man with a burned face. Took to my car. Then other cars, started DeVry Technical Institute in 1961, finally got my AAS degree in Electronics Technology in May, '63. I had had to drop out a quarter due to a quack oral surgeon who wanted to open up my jawbone (at 19, my dad stopped the scheduled surgery, our family dentist pulled the offending tooth, and everything healed up fine (save for my lost respect for the medical profession).

    In May, '63, my baseball-playing friend two doors away revealed his aunt and her family from Germany were moving in with them until they could get settled. 3 kids they had, Diane 7, Rick 12, and Sue 16. I had hoped for, well, I don't know, but having had a year of German, I felt encouraged (bashful as hell) trying to talk with her. She turned out to be amazing! Tall, tiny waist, curvaceous, fit the image of any young man's wildest dreams! One day came the clincher. I was in our garage, under my car, and this pair of feet and ankles appeared. She then revealed she could bend at the waist so far that she peered under the car, standing up! At 16, she had a German Cosmetology License, totally reciprocal here and immediately got her Illinois License. We began dating.............the rest is history.

    So, for me, it would be the 1960s. Frank

    I graduated from High School in 1969 so I'd have to say the mid sixties through the 70's were the decades I most enjoyed in almost every area of life. :)

    High school was a disaster for me. Good grades, true enough, "college prep" curriculum, my advisor said, stuck ywith Algebra I first year along with Biology, Electric Theory elective. Plane Geometry second year, and Physics. Algebra II and Chemistry third year. 4th. year, the worst. Not because of the Trigonometry and College Algebra, but rather having gotten "A's" in English since first year, a thorny, known old-maid English teacher my Senior year, chose me among the several others in class, almost from the first day, to fail English. Nothing I did for her was adequate; came in at 6AM, extra credit work, failed me anyway. My Mother consulted with the English Department Head, who told us it was her way, 5 or 6 chosen early would fail, no matter what. She was #1 in Seniority, nothing could be done. So while my Senior classmates graduated, I did not. My Dad was furious. He felt I was to blame. The thought of summer school was so distasteful, I chose to attend an extra semester the following Fall, had to take 4 courses, English being one of course. I got an "A", of course. They mailed my Diploma to our house in January. In February, I began at DeVry Technical Institute studying Electronics Technology. Frank

    yep that was us *M*.... and you're right it wouldn't work today.....it was bad enough back then.

    I remember the horror of having to play hockey and athletics out on our sports field in navy knicks.....running track and hockey field was right underneath the full glassed windowed Boys techi classrooms..

    Fun for the boys...no fun for us girls... The schools wouldn't get away with that today...

    @Frank Sanoica What that horrible teacher did to you should be illegal. I don't think it would have been allowed today or in later years. But I do think things like that did happen. Some teachers should never have been allowed to teach.

    @Kitty Carmel
    She taught there all her life. The Department Head apologized but explained their hands were basically tied by the Union. She was due to retire in 2 years.......
