While searching for a soda, I came across a lone botte of Newcastle Brown Ale that was left over from our Christmas get-together. Thought to myself, what would go good with this lonely bottle? Digging in the Fridge, I came across a small block of Cheddar and a couple of green onions sticking their heads up, so 'how about a Cheese and Onion Pub sandwich'. No Red Leicester, nor Gloucester, but Cheddar will do in a pinch. Grated, chopped and mixed it up. Now that is a Sandwich. ( but one Newcastle was hardly enough to finish my treat...)
We are having steamed chicken with sweet potatoes and broccoli for dinner tonight. I made another loaf of the almond/whole wheat bread yesterday, so we can have fresh bread with dinner if we want some.
Since I went to Aldi today and got groceries, and their eggs are 28 cents a dozen, I made some deviled eggs and made egg salad sandwiches with the rest of the eggs, as well as saved some for having hard boiled eggs in salads or just to eat plain. Bobby had that for dinner, and I made an avocado and cream cheese sandwich on pita bread, with fresh greens . He is now having his after-dinner nap, and I am enjoying a hot cup of tea and considering a nap myself. I have a pot of red beans cooking for tomorrow, and then I will make some brown rice to go with it for dinner tomorrow night. When I went to Aldi, they had an electric spiralizer on sale for $25, and I was really looking at getting one of those; but my hand-crank one is supposed to get here on Saturday, so I took the electric one back out of my cart and left it there. If it turns out that we really like spiralized veggies, then I can spend the money on one of the electric ones.
Aldi I tried once again today to shop here...no can do. First it was unbearably cold. Oh ... right for dinner....um fried catfish , ramen noodles...without spice packet...used olive oil instead. And a bag of corn, green bean and asperagus mixed. Was tasty
Now that sounds like a Good English Ploughman's Pub Lunch.....I love Leicester and double Gloucester cheese...hubs would have the alcohol ( newkie brown) ..as well
Yesterday I made some wonderful pork sirloin steaks with gravy, rice, turnip greens, and corn for our supper. Since our neighbor and friend...and also former Landlord got home the night before from "wintering" in Florida, we sent him a plate over to eat. Everything was delicious. It's so nice when what one cooks turns out exactly as you hoped it would. Today's cold weather makes me want to cook chicken and sausage gumbo...and I just might end up making that for supper tonight.
Yep, can definitely tell you live in the South.........making gumbo. Definitely not for us, but many people love it in the South.
Let’s see.....a trip from here to there would take me about a day and since good gumbo is even better the day after it is prepared I’ll be there just in time!
Well put @Yvonne Smith in the car and y'all come on down @Bobby Cole....there's plenty of gumbo and potato salad for everyone!
