Most of you know my Honey works part time at a small Country Store right down the road from us and that he is always coming home with free stuff for us.

Today he came home with these Easter Lillies that the Manager was going to throw in the dumpster since Easter is past and no one bought them.

There are two pots of white, one plum looking colored lily and the bright golden yellow pot. We are going to plant them on the side of our former landlord's cottage next door to us right now...and then when we put up the privacy fence we will transplant them along the fence line. Day Lillies are so easy to grow and care for and they come up season after season and spread fast too.

These lillies have a lot of buds on them right now too which is really good for fresh blooms once we get them in the ground. So far I have not brought any veggie plants but we should have a very nice flower garden this year. :)

That is so awesome, @Babs Hunt ! ! those lilies are beautiful and you will certainly be enjoying them for many years. I have bought some from Kroger or Walmart after Easter when they were closing them out, and planted them in the yard. They do not usually bloom in time for Easter here, but they are growing and should bloom soon.
Are your Jerusalem artichokes coming up yet ?
Mine are 2-3” tall now, and if I am going to transplant some of them, I need to do it before they get any taller, or they do not transplant well.

No, they are not up yet...but I have every confidence we will be seeing them break through soon. When they do I will post a picture. :)

I worked in the garden area of a big box store and they threw away dumpsters full of plants. We could purchase at a discount but if some one was caught taking any thing out of the trash they could be fired. We had Bonnie plants there too and they also would rather throw them away than give them to any one. I always thought that it was such a waste especially the vegetables, when there is so much hunger. It's nice the shop owner let your honey bring them home.

I have seen this very thing at Walmart in the garden area, and Home Depot is the same way. They will throw away those plants rather than mark them for clearance and sell them to someone .
This is one of the things that I really like about Lowes, is that they have a whole clearance section, and they at least try to sell the damaged plants before they trash them.

An old friend of mine used to work at a Hallmark Shop and she was always coming home with free things from their shop too.

My Honey and the rest of the employee's that work with him are always being given free things that are near to their expiration date, that might have a small dent or tear on the box, the veggies and fruit may have a bruise or two on them, etc. We have really been blessed in so many ways with my Honey's part time job at this wonderful Country Store. We usually even don't have to buy and charcoal for grilling because their is always a bag that has a rip in it so my Honey gets to bring it home along with lots of free meat to grill too often. :)

I consider all of this free stuff blessings. :)

That IS a real blessing, @Babs Hunt ! A while back, @Bobby Cole worked at the little neighborhood grocery that is just up the road from us, and he was always getting something either free or at a discount and bringing home food for us.
The owner was a very kind Christian man, and sometimes even gave Bobby a bonus in his paycheck, which was awesome as well.
I really liked it when Bobby had that job, and your husband is lucky to have a job at this kind of a small grocery store , too.

Yes, my Honey gets a nice Christmas bonus every year and they also pay for at least a week's vacation for us too. We are blessed to have this part time job and last month he even got a small raise too. :) We're very thankful too that his job is just down the road from our home.

Wonderful ! This fall, they should make more little tubers that you can harvest and make more plants elsewhere, or if you just leave them in the ground, then next year this patch will be a thicker one.

@Yvonne Smith Thanks so much for the JA tubers...they love it over here. :) I kept those tubers in the refrigerator until we were ready to plant them and they didn't mind that either. IMG_0062.JPG IMG_0063.JPG

They are growing and looking great, @Babs Hunt !

By the way, I think you should check your Facebook, someone might be scamming you. I know we have been friends since way before our dear Ina died; but for some reason, I have another friend request that came in your name. If you think that someone else is using your identity, then you can report it.
