I am sure that everyone remembers singing along with the "wish I were an Oscar-Meyer weiner" jingle; but what other commercials did you especially enjoy ? It seems lke we had a lot of more interesting commercials that we do now, although we do still have some that are interesting to watch. One of the commercials that was my favorite was the Hamms Beer commercial which had a cute little Hamms Bear, paddling down a pristine river in his liitle canoe, while in the background you can hear tom-toms playing, and voices are singing the Hamms song. Even though no one in my family drank anything alcoholic, we all still enjoyed the commercial ad for the beer.
From the land of sky blue waters... I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream... Although a more modern version was playing as a commercial when I was a kid, the idea goes back to 1925. Winston tastes good like a cigarette should...
I think this is the one Yvonne was thinking of! Here is one of the Frito Bandito ones that was banned for being "racist!"
I remember, 'Send Your Sinuses To Arizona', which was an Anacin commercial, where the lady was sitting in a lounge chair and suddenly she was transformed to Arizona (in that same lounge chair) because she had taken Anacin! It was amazing to me back in the 60's.
We still scream for Ice Cream. Ice Cream Man! I don't remember any tv commericals that I liked from the past.
I would have to say that the two ads I recall the most would be the 'plop, plop, fizz, fizz' of the old AlkaSeltzer commercials and the Wendy's 'where's the beef?' ads. Interesting factoid - the original dosage of AlkaSeltzer was one tablet and the company was in trouble back in the early 60s. Some genius came up with the 'plop, plop, fizz, fizz' ad campaign and suddenly people were dosing themselves with 2 tablets instead of 1. Doubled sales instantly and also got them through the financial crunch.
How about - "N - E - S - T - L - E - S, Nestles makes the very best .... chocolate" "My bologna has a first name, it's O - S - C - A -R, My bologna has a last name, it's M - A - Y - E - R, Oh I love to eat it every day, and if you ask me why I'll say, cause Oscar Mayer has a way with B - O - L - O - G - N - A" "When it says Libby's Libby's Libby's on the label, label label, You will love it, love it, love it, on your table, table, table, When it says Libby's Libby's Libby's on the label, label label." "And away goes trouble down the drain .... Roto-router." Have I succeeded in getting any of them stuck in your head??
My husband amazes me, he remembers all of the theme songs from the cartoons he watched when he was little, in the late 50s - early 60s. He'll start singing these songs, that I've never heard (I'm 5 years younger, so my cartoons where different from his) and when I look at him strange, he's thinks I'm the defective one - "You mean you never heard that song??!". One day he started singing the theme from "Super Chicken", with all the words AND sound effects. I've never even heard of the cartoon, much less the song. I thought he was nuts. He actually made me look it up on youtube to prove that he wasn't making it up.
Mal, I love this video! I may have heard of 'Super Chicken' as a child, but it was lost in my consciousness along the way. So, please tell you husband this is a great morning 'smile' for me today!
I remember cigarette ads. Call for Phillip Morris LSMFT.....Lucky Strike Old Gold...Not a cough in a carload Gillette ads on Friday night fights. And of course...Where's the Beef?
