Pit: Wife goes to dentist today for the first of 5 visits for a Deep Cleaning of her teeth. The will do her mouth in sections. Don't ask me! I'll be with her (in the waiting room), so see how she comes out of it. May have to take Motrin later. One dentist told her that she needs all new teeth, but we sure can't afford that and move to. She doesn't complain about any pain. My teeth aren't in the best of shape either, but again, finances, even with dental insurance, isn't there. I could use hearing aids and cataract surgery, but neither will happen, at least not before we move.
Peak: Last night our A/C-Heat stopped working. Turns out there was a little water in the emergency shut-off container that made the rubber thingy go up (emergency shut-off). Maintenance just left and they pushed compressed air into A/C unit outside to dry out the condensation that had happened. The thermostat was on "cool" and he reset the temp to 68. We never/ever have it that low. our lowest is 77, we set it at. So, now our A/C and Heat are back working.

Oooh my goodness, @Cody Fousnaugh , 5 visits for teeth cleaning???? Wow! That's a Lot.

Sorry to hear you have to wait until you move to get important medical work done, that's a real shame...

That's why I keep saying, Holly.........."money talks and everything else walks". There are lots and lots of discussions on this forum about how much things cost, from food to medical/medicine. There are lots of people in America that can't afford medical, dental or vision things done, due to the cost, even with insurance.

Not really "a shame", but more like a reality.

Peak today :...Beautiful hot Day... stayed home today and got a lot of chores done including the ironing and all the bed linen. I hate that, it gives me a real bad back ...but I did it in 30 minute increments and sat out in the garden for 10 minute rests in between

Pit:... No matter how I tried I couldn't get the ironing board to stand up..the click rod seemed to have jammed. I got so frustrated with it, I looked for a new one to be delivered today from Amazon...OMG...the price of decent ironing boards these days???...some as much as £100... who the heck pays £100 for an ironing board?

I'm not the one to be paying that when I've got a perfectly good one here that I've had for years.. apart from the Rod of course...so I took it out into the garden..turned it upside down, and finally got the rod to move enough to get it to stand but it would only go waist high..so hence the back ache..

Hubs will fix it when he gets home..

I think it is a shame Cody...a shame that a citizen whose paid taxes all their life and whatever else you guys have deducted from your salaries, and worked hard for 40 or 50 years and then can't afford something essential like hearing aids or Cataracts repaired, and given that you may also have paid into some kind of medical insurance too.... Just very sad and wrong IMO... ...

The NHS here isn't the greatest as it was once upon a time, but at least we don't have to worry about finding money for simple procedures like Cataract surgery..

I hope somehow you manage to get those procedures done soon ..

Not if we want to move and, believe me...........we definitely want to move.

As far as "working hard for 40 to 50 years"..........you talking about us?? I had two jobs that I had to work hard on and I quit both in less than a week of starting (LOL). Not kidding. One was installing fence and using a post-hole digger. I last less than a day. Another was operating a steel cutting machine. That job ended after a week.

And, if you don't know this, cataract surgery isn't the most simplest surgery to have. Drops in eyes daily and can't bend over for a couple of weeks to do anything. Eye surgeons like laser cataract surgery much better than regular cataract surgery. Thing is, Medicare pays nothing for laser, so it would cost us around $800 for each eye. Plus, the cost of eye drops........which aren't cheap.

That's why there are so many Seniors that can't get these things done, no matter what the future may hold for the medical problem.

Cody.... are you seriously telling me that you've only worked 2 weeks in your life?....

as for the cataract surgery, it's a simple procedure, usually performed as an outpatient....

...and this is your business of course, and I know how much you want to move...but are you really potentially willing to go blind and deaf first?...seriously?????

Yeah, it is depressing that the folks who contributed so much in taxes and such over their lifetimes get little care, while those who contribute nothing and are on the dole get FAR better care--everything covered and no deductible or co-pay. Even dental and hearing are covered by Medicaid/MediCal and many or most of those people also get large "Earned Income Tax Credits" as well, which is "negative income tax". Many get taxes back when they have not paid anything. My wife does tax prep, and the manipulation she witnesses is nauseating. If Medicare recipients received as good care as Medicaid, everybody would be happy.

Yep same happens here. People who have been on the dole their whole life, sponging from the taxpayer, churning out lots of children all are entitled to the same treatment as those who have paid National insurance contributions and Tax all their lives..

I feel for many of the elderly who are on a basic state pension after working all their lives or stay at home mothers who raised their children while dad worked, no benefits in those days , and now many of those on the dole know how to work the system to their advantage and are driving around in big expensive cars and some even have several homes by cheating the system into believing they're homeless then subletting those council houses out. There's barely a week goes by when some sponger isn't caught stealing money from the government in benefits their not entitled to sometimes to the tune of hundreds of thousands ... and rarely do they go to prison or even made to pay it back.. , and those who are caught are just the tip of the iceberg

Oh heck no. But, did have to many jobs, at least that's what some folks would think. Had one for 4 years and another for 4 1/2 years. But, the rest, a year and half or less.

While my wife was getting her vision test done two weeks ago, by the same place I go, I seen the doctor who told me about the progressing cataracts and asked him (again) about my eyes. He outright told me "don't worry, you're not going to go blind". He said this to me in front of my wife. Wife has a little bit of cataract in one eye also. We wear clip-on sunglasses during the day and yellow clip-on glasses at night. Both clip onto our prescription glasses.

As far as my hearing goes, I say "hugh?" to my wife quite often, but she only has one tone when talking.........low. IOW, she doesn't talk over a tv, A/C, washer/dryer running or anything like that.

And, to answer your last question..........won't go blind or deaf, but definitely got to have money to move. Sacrificing certain things in life to have other things is just what life is about at times. Heck, the one week trip we are taking this summer is going to cost us upwards of $5,000......airfare, car rental, hotel, eating and the fun things we plan on doing (going to a pro-rodeo for one).

Didn't mean to hit "Reply".........dang it.

Anyway, just to let you know, Holly, you don't live where we do. We can put up with living here awhile longer, but that's it. "Awhile", meaning another year, but definitely hope that's it.

No you're right I don't live where you do Cody, and by everything you've said about it, I'm glad I don't, so I completely support your wish to move...

Like I said, it's your business what you spend your money on... and saving for a new home is certainly important given your circumstances...but $5, 000 Grand for a week's trip/vacation., when you're pleading poverty... ..jeeez, sorry Cody, but you and I are on 2 different financial mental planets here!!!

Very pleased you're not losing your sight though, and yes it's very important to wear good quality sunglasses...
