I was informed this morning that one of my brothers passed away yesterday , I have to admit we have never been a close family and due to him living interstate 3000 km from me. I’d had very little contact with him over the years .I last seen him/ spoke to him about 10 years ago. However it makes me a bit nervous thinking that’s the third sibling to pass away and they were all, quite a bit younger than me He was 64 , I’m 72 ...I lost a brother many years ago at 14 years old and, 12. years ago a sister at 50 years of age ( she was a twin ) and 10 years younger than me So now there is 5 left including me, I’m the eldest
I am sorry to hear that, @Kate Ellery. So far, all of my siblings are still here, but most every other relative that I've met is gone, save a few cousins. Of the five of us, I am the next to the youngest, my oldest brother about twelve years older than I am, but he's still working, during the summer anyhow, at Disney World. I live a long way from any of them and, while we talk on the phone sometimes, I haven't seen any of my brothers in about eight years.
Sorry to hear that Kate...my condolences. I'm the oldest of 4 and by many years with my sisters. I have a feeling I'll be the first to go.
Adding my sympathies to everyone’s for the loss of your brother, @Kate Ellery . I can see where it would be even more difficult when you start losing people who are younger than you are, but each person is different, and it doesn’t mean that you won’t live to be 100. As an only child, I have not had to lose anyone in my family except for my mother and father, which was very traumatic for me. My 3 children have been my only blood relatives for many years now, and hopefully, they will all outlive me.
I am so sorry to hear that news Kate,..... And not to worry your going to live an ripe ole age.. I am one of 3 siblings.. My brother,5 yrs older than me, passed away from lung cancer, (smoker) 3 yrs ago and now i only have a sister who is 5 yrs older then me who is 85 yrs old, i hope to see her this year .. She lives in Ohio and me in Tn. I just need to get my own health in order first before i can go see her,,
The two siblings who have passed ( not including my brother who passed away at 14 ) Both Vicky and, Ian who just passed away always thought I was “strange “ one of the family because I refused to drink or smoke when young ( I never have ) However Vicky died from cancer 12 years ago at 50 Ian I believe at this stage had bladder cancer So maybe my strong determination early in life not to take on the above mentioned ,bad habits ( in my eyes ) has enabled me to,live a longer healthier life. I danced with a 95 year old man and Hubs with the man’s wife of 73 years at our second dance for the week ,yesterday so we plan to still be around dancing at our friends ages @Shirley Martin it keeps us fit
Sorry to hear of your loss @Kate Ellery . We all are a product of our environment and dna... what we do or do not do, only helps or hinders to a certain degree. My doctor as well as friends, mention all the time about oh you live to be a 100! Nope not going to happen..however it is not about living longer, it is about living better while i am still here
