Yes, to me it has been sounding like that in so many of your posts lately, but maybe what it really is...is that you are just ready to move from there now and it isn't possible yet. There is no perfect place to live, but I hope you and your wife will find a place where y'all will be happy living most of the time.
From what I've seen, it's wall-to-wall people and most of them aren't from there, so there very little in the way of history.
When Robin and I drove back home from Orlando, we came home up the west coast of Florida, along the ocean. there are some really pretty little towns along that route, you just have to stay off of the main freeways to actually see the beauty of the state (just like anywhere else). Some of the small towns were historical, and had information posted about the homes or other sites that had historical significance. Both Robin and I said that it would be awesome to spend more time in some of those small towns, and living there sounded like it would be great, too. It was cooler since it was so close to the ocean, but still tropical enough for all of the amazing trees and plants to be growing all around us.
You are right @Yvonne Smith Florida has many pretty little towns and beautiful beaches. And @Ken Anderson is right too. In the bigger cities of Florida you will find a diversity of people from all over the World...some here legally...and some not. When I moved to Jacksonville to marry my Honey (in St. Augustine) the five years we lived in JAX was a very interesting time of life for me. Jacksonville is one of the places you will find people from all over. The apartment complex we lived in had many that spoke everything but English...yet most of us found a way to communicate with each other and I found that no matter where we are from we all (for the most part) are just trying to make a living the best we can and raise our families, etc. in a safe place. I found the weather in Jacksonville to be very much like Louisiana's...except for the cooling breezes that would come in from the Oceans that often felt like air conditioning surrounding us outside...I liked that a lot. And as for the hurricanes Florida and Louisiana are very much alike in having those come our way too. Yet anytime someone lives along a Coast line in any State...hurricanes are going to be a problem sooner or later. Alberto did not become a hurricane....thank God. But with Hurricane season not officially beginning until June 1st it made all of us who know Hurricanes can and do hit where we live wonder what this season will be like and if this season will the one that brings another Katrina, etc. our way. And with 3 of my sisters living in the path of Alberto I found myself on my knees in prayer along with them praying Alberto would miss them or lessen in strength before it hit land around them. Both of these prayers were answered and for that I am thankful too. All of us though will be keeping track of what's brewing in the waters around us during Hurricane season and praying that this year will be a mild one for Hurricanes.

Actually, I'm not surprised at all that Ken would say that he'd never live in Florida. I often wonder what it takes to make some people understand that...……...Florida isn't for everyone. There are plenty of former Florida people living in Tennessee now that will tell anyone that. The heat, high humidity (96% as I write this), tropical storms and, of course, those hurricanes that can be deadly and extremely destructive. Andl, Babs, I really believe Jacksonville has changed, and possibly quite a bit, since you lived here. Definitely a higher population, higher crime and traffic. Things are very, very fast-paced here. Even though there are Seniors that live here, the majority of Jacksonville is NOT "Senior" related at all. As fast as traffic goes here, and the way many young folks drive, would scare the heck out of many Seniors. They would never get behind the wheel here. Many talk about how "friendly" it is here, well, we didn't even see that "friendliness" when we first moved here and still don't. There are those that get totally shocked when we start talking to them in a restaurant or someplace. We had some of that "unfriendliness" when we had our house in Colorado, but we think that was because we had no children and the housing development was full of families with children, not just couples like we were. But, even at that, the area was still friendlier than anywhere we've been in Jacksonville. If a person likes, even loves, diversity, Jacksonville has it. Different races, different restaurants and so on and so on. That "diversity" thing is very low in parts of Colorado and almost non-existent in other Rocky Mountain and Midwest Plains states. That is why many folks that leave Florida, don't move to those Rocky Mountain or Plains states. Not just because of the winters, but also because they like, and still want, diversity.
Like I said @Cody Fousnaugh I'll be so glad when you move somewhere where you will be happy and have good things to say about that place.
Guess you read my last reply, right? I'm really wondering what Ken will say about you asking him about living in Maine and why he dislikes Florida. Let's ask this, if you lived anywhere else in America, where would you choose to live? I mean, just putting the family on the side and choosing to live somewhere else. Would be where you live be for many? Are there things you don't like about where you live or is it all really nice? Just wondering. I can tell you don't really like someone talking negative about some things, well, Babs, talking "negative" about certain things is just reality. I have to keep reminding my wife about that, because there are times that she "thinks" to positive.

Well Cody you can start all the posts you want on those topics and when we have something to add to your posts we will. At one time in my life I have pretty much lived a little of all those things and about the only negative thing I have to say about any of them is that it's no fun stepping in a pile of horse crap! I like the positives in life much better than the negatives and believe there is something positive in every situation.
Well, would want a thread that others would reply to and the topics I listed, most in this forum know nothing about and/or are not interested in. So, where does that leave me? As far as "horse crap" goes, would much rather step in that than in hog crap! Even stepping in dog crap can be nasty. But, stepping in horse or any other livestock crap is just part of being around those animals. Really sort of funny, but I remember, years ago, wearing a brand new pair of Ariat Lace-Up Roper boots to a rodeo. I wasn't roping at this, but was helping the Stock Contractor for Timed Events. Some rodeo guys asked me "are those new boots, dude?", I said "yes" and they said "sure can't have new looking boots here" and proceeded to kick dirt on them. I knew exactly what they were talking about and started covering each boot with arena dirt as well. We all got a laugh out of it.
Florence is puzzling everyone on the weatherboards, as it shouldn't be a Category 4, but is. Monday's forecast... Upper level wind shear was going to keep it tamped down... Current forecast... No one has any confidence in where it is going, as the spaghetti models have been in every direction, although it seems to be tightening. Can it make it to the USA? We should sincerely hope not, as the warmer waters should intensify Florence's strength. But then Florence has managed to upset a lot of the modeling. Still a lot can happen, but we will know with certainty in about a week.
Hurricane Center is now saying that it could definitely hit, outer bands perhaps, the Carolina coasts, which would impact northeastern Florida, where we are, but basically only along the beach areas. Then, it would turn back out to sea/Atlantic.
