    I Need A Vacation

Summer is fast approaching and many people hereabout are planning for and getting ready for their annual vacations. It has been a long time since we’ve been on vacation. Some say I’m on perpetual vacation but that’s simply not true. I’m off work but it is certainly no vacation.

Supposing I was to up and take a vacation. Where would I go? Is there someplace I’d like to see or visit. I have friends who take cruises. Last I heard they were talking about that Alaskan Cruise. Or a trip to the Holy Land? No I think the Alaskan and the Holy Land are out. I can’t seem to work up any enthusiasm for either one.

I once thought I’d like to visit Australia but all my friends in Australia are visiting Fiji or Great Briton so why go there when they are all leaving. I don’t know where outside these United States I’d like to visit. So what does that leave?

I try to avoid large bodies of water and flying anywhere is out of the question.

I used to like to go over to Taos, New Mexico when I had a few days off. Texans who live in the western part of the state among the prairie grasses find the New Mexico mountains and environment to their liking. Woe is me for I could no longer tolerate that high country. I could not walk nor breathe that cool mountain air today. The air is too thin.

I used to think occasionally of taking an Amtrak train over to the West coast and up to Seattle. Come back through the northern states to Minneapolis and back down to Norman here in Oklahoma. I’m not sure Amtrak is that reliable anymore. I just don’t know. It’s most difficult to travel when you must depend on portable oxygen. It is just not feasible.

There is a place my wife has talked about visiting down the road a ways. It’s the Chickasaw Cultural Center out from Davis,Oklahoma. That’s just down the Interstate here about seventy-five miles. She’s talked about running down there ever since we’ve been in Oklahoma. Trouble is she won’t ride with me down there. She’s afraid of my driving out on the highway with my emphysema and history of multiple heart attacks. Can’t say IU blame her. I used toffee that way about a neighbor when riding with him.

Well that don’t leave many places to spend time wining and dining and relaxing on a short vacation. I hear Atwood’s is having a sale and we haven’t been out to our Mall in years. Wonder if anything has changed. I don’t know where else could hang out. Maybe we could take day trips to different retail outlets shopping. Take three or four days and hit a different establishment every day. Shop till we drop. I run that by the wife this morning. She didn’t say no but just turned up her nose as if to dismiss an utterly ridiculous idea.

It’s been a long, long time since we’ve taken a vacation and we have only taken one two week vacation ever. Vacations are not what they used to be. They’re overrated. We haven’t taken one and I think you cannot see why.

Anyway it was just a thought. Maybe next year.

Well a scenic train ride is still on my bucket list. Lots of places are, my problem is I don't feel like going alone.

At least you have a better half. :)

Not yet ...still in school here. 8th grader graduates on June 5th. I'll be going to that.

One in college is there until middle of June. He's also taking some courses at the CC that transfer credits to cal poly. Wants to get some easy ones out of the way.

Yep...he can pay for it. :)

As much as I love my grandsons, I think I'd prefer a train trip, with another adult.

If I had to choose one to go with it would be him though.

The younger ones still need watching and I'd be worn out.

My husband's daughter and her husband are moving back to Arlington, TX from Utah at the end of June. She is not going to look for a job right away and she said she would come and drive us anywhere we want to go on vacation. :)

Sounds great...are you going to take her up on her generous offer?

    Would you go to Florida?
