We don't live close to any of the crime in this city, but we just don't like living in a city that has as much crime as this city has. I know why we picked Jacksonville, Florida to live in, but with the influx of people that has happened here since we've moved here, this cities crime rate has gotten worse and worse. Everyone "thought" that when we got a new Mayor and Sheriff, the crime would lower..........it didn't.

Well, the homicides have already started up here. One early New Years AM and one last night. In 2017, we had 141 homicides here. That is an increase from 2015/2016. Guess the Mayor and Sheriff just don't know what to do about it. When both were elected a couple of years ago, they both promised to lower the crime rate and homicide rate here...........hasn't happened.

That would scare us also. Last Fall, a lady that lives two apartments down from us, had someone get in her car and go thru her middle storage compartment (between the front seats). Thing is, she doesn't have an alarm on her car and she told the officer that she thinks she left it unlocked. The officer talked to her neighbors, including me, and told me that this is a "crime of opportunity", since she left her car unlocked and no alarm. Come to find out, this was the second time this happened to her.......left unlocked and no alarm.

Their car was locked and nothing inside because we've been told not to have anything in our cars. The Tahoe was the son's car.

This happened a few times before but not so close to my home.

I always park in my garage but they don't have the room as they have 4 vehicles...the oldest kids now can drive.

They also have at least 4 dogs, I'm surprised they didn't bark up a storm.

I have a feeling I'm not going to sleep well tonight...even though most think it was just teenage thugs...

If it was their son’s car, perhaps he knows some people that don’t like him.
We are told different things by law enforcement here, but almost all of it falls on deaf ears. People who don’t care to listen and follow what they suggest.

No, I don't think that's it. He may be out of HS already.

I just texted with my neighbor and he said he thinks they were after the rear seats in the Tahoe ..he says they're pretty expensive and he keeps theirs in the garage.

I also asked him to keep an eye on my house while I'm gone.

Their driveway is very near my bedroom back wall and I'm just surprised Pickles didn't bark, nor their dogs.

I might have tuned their dogs out but not mine.

Also maybe with the glass falling into the truck there might not have been a lot of noise.

The homicides in this city just keep going on. Yesterday, three of them. These sure are keeping Homicide Detectives busy.

Since we've had 6 homicides so for this year, and we are only 10 days into 2017, our local news station had a talk with Mayor of Jacksonville. The Reports biggest question was, "is our law enforcement doing enough concerning homicides and gangs"? The Mayor stated that he adjusted the budget to hire 100 more officers and it's up to the Sheriff how he deems "doing enough". A Crime Coalition, on the north side of this city, where a lot of homicides/crime happens, states "not enough is being done in the areas of color". There is a lot of black-on-black homicides/crime in this city.

Most people, in the safer areas of this city, state, "I really don't care about the crime here. Let them kill each other if they chose."

Well, the homicides just continue here!

On Tuesday evening, three young blacks (teen/early 20's) were shot/killed in a car by others in another car, next to a gas station in a pretty upper-class area here about 5 miles from us. Another black local rapper was also shot and is in serious condition after being shot multiple times in the same car. Law enforcement says that it was an ongoing dispute that led up to the killings. Don't know if those killed were from that upper-class area or not, but not likely. We know the area very well and have gone shopping there a number of times. Law enforcement reports that that basically the only crime done in the area is shoplifting.

But, last year there was a homicide in a restaurant/nightclub parking lot. A dispute that started inside the building and continue with a killing in the parking lot. The killer was caught.

The Mayor of the city is asking for more officers to try and curtail the homicide problem of the city.

@Cody Fousnaugh "The Mayor of the city is asking for more officers to try and curtail the homicide problem of the city."

IMO, more officers might help, but not enough to stop the problem. If the combatants or individual criminals were worried about the police, they would cease breaking the law. The solution would be to "drain the swamp". Far to difficult an untertaking, so no dice.

Well, turns out that two of the young black guys that were killed, were known gang members to law enforcement and none of them from our area. They were from the north side of the city, which is known for black gangs.
What they were doing on the Southside of here (area we live in) hasn’t been told yet.

Sometimes gangs and gang activity somehow creeps into the better neighborhoods..we had a murder and it was gang related ....just happened because the gang memeber had a relative or friend in the neighborhood....it happens but not too often ...thank goodness.

Sometimes someone in a nice neighborhood has a kid selling drugs or something ....that happens also.

I don't see where the "War on Drugs" has led to any improvement at all in our society; if anything, the drug problems are worse. The actual proclaiming of an all out anti-drug effort dates all the way back to the '70s, I believe.

IMO, the worst "bad" to come out of it all was the decision that it is OK for government to seize personal property. RICO law. Seemingly, before, only Imminent Domain existed, which stinks, too.

Untold billions of dollars have been spent by the government fighting drugs, with little to show for it.
