I am sure I'll anger some people here, but I wasn't overly impressed with the acting skills of John Wayne. Had I seen him in one or two of his best movies, maybe, but he was the same in every role he played, so I couldn't picture him as whatever character he was playing. Regardless of the role, he was just John Wayne. I didn't dislike him but, regardless of the character he was supposed to be playing, he was John Wayne.

Aside from your thoughts, the public revered his as a "true American". In one scene after the "take", in which Bruce Dern shoots and kills him, as they walked away together, Wayne said to Dern, "They're gonna hate you for that!". And the public certainly did, judging by the immediate reaction to Dern's popularity.

I agree with Marion Morrisson* not being the greatest actor of the American Western Macho type, but he typified that image anyway!

*(Marion Morrisson is the Duke's real name )

I have always said that John Wayne couldn't act and Johnny Cash couldn't sing.

Archie Bunker was an arrogant, overbearing, racist *&%!@#!*. I never could see why anybody thought he was funny. And Edith was a weak, simpering fool. I always wanted to slap her up side her head and tell her to develop a backbone.

I couldn't stand Carrol O'Conner in "In the Heat of the Night" , either. That was the fakest southern accent I ever heard. Sidney Poitier was suppose to be from Philadelphia but his southern accent was worse than O'Conner's.

Of course, this only goes to prove that they were good at what they do because Carroll O'Connor was a liberal, and Jean Stapleton was an accomplished actress and an intelligent woman.

I'm with Chrissy and Ken on Conan O'Brian!

I dislike everything about the man: His Appearance, his Voice, his Delivery of "comic" lines, and more.

As for talent, he's unqualified to shine Johnny Carson's shoes!

I realized later that Sidney Poitier did not play in, "In the Heat of the Night" TV series. It was Howard Rollins. Still, the southern accent was fake.

Carroll O'Conner and Jean Stapleton were good actors. It was the characters they portrayed in "All in the Family" that irritated me.

I'm not sure if he got busted for pedophilia but I do remember when he got caught uh, playin' with winkie' at a XXX movie theater.

But yeah, of all the personalities that people have listed thus far, he's the one that should have fallen off a bridge somewhere.
