I love trees, all kinds. Even dead trees have a story of its own. I ask myself 'Is it really dead just because it's bare?' The vacant house next door has a tree that has no leaves on it. When I am relaxing in my back yard watching birds come and go I ponder on that question sometimes. When Johnny and I took road trips to his home state of Arkansas I captured all kinds of treeswith my camera and I would see that one that stands out from all the others and I'd think 'Now who planted that tree there?'
I have trees on my land that are dead and still standing, but they are home to a lot of life. Birds still nest in them. Bugs and other crawling things get inside of the tree. Woodpeckers excavate new holes in the tree every year, which they use for a season, and then other birds use the nests in subsequent years. Squirrels and mice might enlarge these holes for their own use. When I was clearing land for our cabin, I cut down a living tree, only to find that it was hollow in the center. I watched while five or six mice exited from the tree after it had toppled. I felt bad about having cut down their condo.
Having a curious nature that I do, I had the opportunity to check this barren tree out when I found the gate had been forced opened. Check meaning the stability of it and my reaction was one of shock. The roots had broken up the walkway something terrible. Anyone taking ownership of the property will be spending $1000s of dollars to remove it and repair the walkway.
@Von Jones Thank you! Why couldn't I have found a lady like you many years ago............ But, otoh, why might she have thought me worthy......... Just thinkin' back, about how things might have been, instead of how they have become.... Done. Buried myself again..... Frank
Speaking of trees outliving people, my grandparents have been gone almost 30 years. This is their old house in 2016 captured from StreetView. The trees from left to right are: Sycamore, shaggy old fir (just to the right of the house), and a Ginkgo on the right. We played around those trees 60 years ago. All those trees were old when they bought the house back in the 30's. My grandmother always complained about the sycamore dropping bark all over the place. The Ginkgo would turn brilliant yellow in the fall and drop it's leaves all in less than a week. They had a couple of acres almost in town, covered with trees, shrubs, flower beds, and a large garden. I don't know how they kept up with it all. Also, don't know why the new owners removed the windows from the right side of the house upstairs. It looks funny now, to me. Oh well, not my place. I just figured it out. Upstairs right was a sewing room off my mother's old bedroom. I bet they made a master suite, with a bath in place of the sewing room.
Has anyone heard of Meetup.com? Wednesday (6/20): Went to a Meetup group for dinner at Locos. Only 2 miles from my house in a shopping center with plenty of parking. They made it too easy. There were 18 people there. It was different, a nice change. I need to wash and wax the truck next time. There are at least a dozen Meetup groups in town. Another interesting one is Kinky - Fetishes and BDSM Meetup. Next meeting is July 13 at 7 pm. The topic is Rope Classes: A chance to learn how to safely do rope. Announcement includes this picture. Think I'll pass on this one. Thursday (6/21): Don't remember Friday (6/22): Needed one more 2x4. Got caught in a HEAVY rain coming home from Lowes. Had to pull off the road. Lasted just a few minutes but they reported 0.5 inches at the airport, right next door. Some street lights out. It completely stopped by the time I got home (just 3 miles away). Saturday (6/23): Finished mowing, sprayed more weeds, at the farm, plus the usual stuff.
Ive heard of meetup and even looked into some of the groups in Fresno...for some reason or another, I didn't go. I didn't see any kinky ones though....maybe I wasn't looking hard enough.
All I've accomplished so far today is fix two hummingbird feeders with rubber coating so they don't leak, mow a strip in the back yard, mower is working fine, and did the headlights on the truck, with Turtle Wax Headlight Restorer. Before and After (not perfect but much better) Reviews said it might only last 6 months. Fine. I'll do it again in 6 months. The day is still young. Hope to get something more accomplished. Putting it in writing! lol
Yes, Frank---painter's tape. One step uses a spray bottle. You really need to cover the whole vehicle, because the spray travels. Some reviews say toothpaste works just as well. I doubt that, but who knows. It's possible the inside of the plastic is corroded a little also. Can't get to that, at least I don't want to try.
@Nancy Hart An old tale from way back claimed Coca Cola would remove rust from bumpers! Never tried it! Another claimed it would dissolve an iron nail left in a glassful...... Frank
