It would appear that her plan was in trouble from the outset, as the EU was/is likely to reject the proposal. The proposal is one of those "have your cake and eat it too" proposals, imo. If the EU were to agree, other countries would want their cake as well.

I originally thought the brexit vote was about autonomy, but there has been nothing since the vote that supports that idea. I guess I was wrong... so what do I know.

Although I did find it interesting that some remainers were trying to downplay the world cup chances, as an England victory might give the economy a big boost and undermine the remainers efforts. Not unlike liberals in the US hoping for a bad economy to oust Trump.

Trump should feel right at home when visiting the UK.

Sickened by the weakness of Mrs May - we were in a very good position at the start of all this but she's crumbled
and as soon as the EU see weakness they pounce on their prey !
The only one to help us is Nigel Farage, my second choice would be Mr. Trump but I doubt you'd let him go ! :p

Yep it's definitely in a mess...now the Foreign secretary Boris Johnsson has resigned too....and although I'm far from his greatest fan, I don't blame him..

May is a weak character, and she would be given a no confidence vote by the party and ousted , but unfortunately it would be handing the leadership of the country and specifically the Brexit negotiations over to the most inept potential PM ever in jeremy Corbin... something undeniably horrifying for the vast majority of the public...so for the time being we're stuck with the inadequate May, and hopefully ..P l e a s e... God, someone comes up with a better solution than this horrifying weak brexit she's proposing

I'll say no more than that I always make it a policy not to discuss politics online ..

Could Boris Johnsson assemble a coalition and become PM? Would that be a good thing? Answer in private if you don't want it public, @Holly Saunders. I really just want info. I am behind in British politics.

To put it simply, the majority of voters want 'out' of the EU - unfortunately the 'remainers' those that want to stay in - have put up
such a fight - making the whole process 'very' difficult to resolve.

Yes he could assemble a coalition, that's a possibility...he's more likely to assemble and lead a group within May's own party and challenge her brexit strategy. This could cause a very long brexit exit if it were to occur...

Boris is not a favourite politician of mine, however he's been an able Foreign secretary, certainly much more so than Hague.. so it's a huge loss to the party to lose him from that position.. however he's angry at May, there's no question about that, it's clear in his resignation letter.. and I feel that May will be standing on very shaky ground in the aftermath , and worse still the general public may suffer from a fast weak brexit without proper negotiations , due to May's determination not to be ousted before Brexit take's place...

Setting aside that the author was a former UKIP spokesman and would be guaranteed to trash anything less that a hard brexit... is there anyone that really wants to have their name on any brexit deal and therefore any historical association? Mrs. May is in the unfortunate position of not being able to escape. It is not really any miracle that she continues to survive, but rather one of her being left holding the bag imo and deservedly so. She largely created this mess, by attempting to get some kind of mandate.

@Harry Havens - it has been tough for her, but some of her decisions have been bad too as you say
The 'real' culprits are the EU for sure, just hope this latest attempt by May is a good outcome for us

Not sure as to what you consider a good outcome. I see on Sky News that Mrs. May has supposedly told her cabinet to prepare for the EU to reject the latest proposal. I would think the EU has only one option and that would be to reject the latest proposal. There are a lot of countries watching for the EU reaction and any misstep could further destabilize the union, imo.
On the other hand, that may be also be the solution as it would force the UK to start preparations for a hard brexit, as it has appeared to be lacking due to confusion. Good luck!!

To see the end of the EU would be great for all the countries involved in it - they may not realise it, but its true
They are just a bunch of fat cats lapping up the cream of other countries, with no concern for their welfare
Its time to rebel - we have seen 'no' benefit by being part of this ludicrous system
And thanks to you for your post :)

I can't see how moving the power further away can ever help. The EU and other such constructions are an extension of the problems we have in the United States, where power is becoming more and more concentrated in the federal government. The farther away from the governed the source of government gets, the more expensive it is and the less useful it is to the people who are subject to it. The so-far not enacted North American Union would have been our version of the EU, and that would have been disastrous, allowing Canada and Mexico to overrule the United States on issues relating to the United States,
