Over my lifetime I’ve had three hobbies that have helped sustain and nourish my being and balance whatever job I was holding.. One was golf. I loved the game. I was not very good at it but I always enjoyed going out on the golf course with a good tee time and playing a round with friends. Golf can be a life time endeavor. Although the last few times I played it did leave my pocket book a little flat. For those who like it and can afford it, Golf is a fine game.

Another hobby was photography. although I was not very good but I did know the craft. I was into photography about fifteen years. In a camera club with monthly and annual contest I did manage enough wins to keep me interested. Until digital came alongandmadeaprfessional out of everybody. It was a good hobby.

It’s fair to say I bowled on a company team. I was talked into this I would be member endplay only until a quality bowler came along. They found one; split.

The third hobby I enjoyed and spent some good time learning and practicing and playing contest was Archery, target archery. The company i worked for sponsored an archery team. I don’t know what all they did except bought us a shirt we wore, but I was talked into this hobby by a work co-hart. This was in the days before these ugly and efficient compound bows.

I bought a used bow. a wood laminated recurve made by Bear and Company. It was a forty-two pound pull. I thought it weak wen I saw only a forty-two pounder but i was then that was weak and it game me all the power and distance I could manage.

The coworker who talked me into this crazy venture was the team champ . There were several other club in town who deployed against but the real fun was playing other towns such a Patrolia, Bowie, Windthroust, Nocona, and Scotland. Thee were other small towns in the mix. ( Some of these word may be misspelled ) I think that lasted only three or four years, but I then hunted with the bow for a while.

Now I have family who hunt whenever, whatever season is open. One is so good the Texas Fish and wildlife call on him for advise in certain matters, mostly rules. He also hunts occasionally with the Governor of Tennessee who admires his skill. And once upon a time this skillful archer told me I couldn’t catch fish. Why? I didn’t know how. He was right of course. I hope you’ve got or had some good hobbies.

For over the last 20+ yrs. my living situation had been my hobby. Engineering anything to make living on a 12 volt battery possible and easy..

As of recent, I've become a self proclaimed Hillbilly Audiophile, building low wattage, low power audio sound systems for about any situation you can imagine..

Like Bill Boggs, I discovered photography during my off-duty time in the Army, in 1961-1962.

I learned to process negatives and enlarge prints, using the chemical baths and enlargers provided in the Army's hobby shops.

When I returned to civilian life, I built a darkroom and processed my own black & white prints.

As Bill said, the fun was all over when digital photography came out.

I bought a 45-pound Bear recurve bow, and fitted on a bowsight, and had fun with friends at Archery ranges.

Then I got into Astronomy, and began buying big, expensive telescopes, one of which had a huge 20" mirror and cost me over $6000.

Here's our front yard Joshua Tree that blew down a few years ago, damaging our tile roof.
Arborists claim it was 500 years old.

Very nice! There is a veritable forest of them between Kingman, AZ and Phoenix, which US 93 runs through.

018.jpg Creating a blind #2.JPG This is an area in my backyard that I see everyday when I'm at my computer. I love this view. It always inspires my creativity. It's just one of my personal canvases around our home especially during spring, summer and fall.

Here you see my two grandsons clearing out the area of fallen tree branches and leaves that have accumulated for the past two maybe three years and I got tired of looking at it. So my younger grandson asks me if there was anything that he could do to earn some money. Bingo! I was going to do this myself so I put him to work at $5 a bag. My oldest grandson just happened to stop by that day and joined in.

As I'm watching them the cogwheels in my mind starting churning (I think that's what cogwheels do.) Looking at the picture you can see what once was a pallet that I vigorously torn down to create a karaoke stand at one time, then an area for my screen house, now it and another piece were waiting for there next purposeful use. Then the light bulb shined. I was going to create a blind so I won't have to look at that area.

A few days later one of my granddaughters came by to visit. Everyone this is Ciara, she will be eight in August and was diagnosed as autistic at two years old. Her condition is not as severe and she has come along well so far. The one thing that I've learned is that she needs to be doing something and what better way to do that was to have her help with one of my creations, called 'ART' the blind.

She got tired but was so proud of her work and wanted her Dad to see it. So I made the call, she left for home and I completed the project.

What a completely cool idea!! I have a portable clothes hanger rack that isn't used. Think I'll try something like this on it and use as a sun blocker on the patio. Wow! I love new ideas. Thanks!

Thank you @Bess Barber, it's not often that my creations receive responses such as yours.

If you have any questions or need any help with your project I'd be glad to assist.

Golf was one of my hobbies that I pursued on a regular basis up until three years ago until Rhematoid Arthritis made it impossible to maintain my balance.I can't stand to watch the game on TV because I miss playing myself.

I golfed some in high school. I had a friend whose father owned a golf course so we could golf there for free when it wasn't busy, and before and after they closed for the season. I never got very good at it, but I can see how someone could come to enjoy the game. I tried golfing a few times since but golfing has become so popular that the courses are packed and, since I'm not very good, people are always either getting impatient or wanting to play through, which means that I have to wait for them, and that makes me impatient. My oldest brother had (and probably still has) a golf course on his property. He started with three holes and later expanded it to nine, but I think that involved re-using a few holes. Probably having something to do with this, one of his sons got a full golf scholarship from Michigan State.

I'm leaving for Spain soon. as our daughter has people staying at her place , we can't stay at her guest Casita so we've rented an apartment on a beautiful Golf complex near the coast, about 50 km's from her.

I'll make sure and post Pics for you all.

@Von Jones , Lovely pictures..I really enjoyed those :D and Ciara is not only cute as a button, she's very clever too, and you can tell her that a lady in England said that I wish she could come and help make a beautiful blind for me too... ...
