I found some great music on the way to other things. Among them is this one, from the Midnight Special: John Denver and Cass Elliott -- after a brief political speech -- sing "Leaving on a Jet Plane," which was, ironically, written by Denver. Something about Cass Elliott's voice is so compelling...

Roberta Flack's "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face," with footage and music from 1969, and defaced by someone who is, I'm sure, a well-meaning fan who thought we all had to read the lyrics rather than hear them. Still a great video as well as song.

You might be shocked to find out that this song, originally a folk song, was written in 1957 by a political folk singer whose name I can no longer remember for Peggy Seeger -- yes, those Seegers -- who he would eventually marry.

I would like to apologize for my wife's poor taste in music. Her taste in television is even worse.

Etta James, singing "I've Been Loving You Too Long," which was written by Otis Redding and Jerry Butler (The Iceman). I love this version, because the clarity and crispness of her voice is so striking here, and was soon to be gone.
