I think you made a wise decisions for yourself. Try not to cut yourself off socially I would think people our age would be more accommodating to you in the meantime try and learn some basic sign language

I am a extrovert and try to engage with people as best I can but it's a real struggle and frustrating.

My friend , Evelyn, was telling me about a lady that she is friends with in her apartment complex. The lady is a deaf mute, but they communicate with each other by texting on their phones, and Evelyn says that it works really well.
They can sit and enjoy a cup of coffee together and chat back and forth as they are having their coffee. Even though it is slower conversation than just sitting and talking, being able to text with her friends opens up a whole new world for this person.
This is actually how I usually communicate with my friends and family (even Bobby sometimes), even though we could just as easily speak to each other.
Of course, if a person only has a desktop computer, then it is not feasible to do this when visiting with someone, unless you are sitting right at your desk. The large smartphones will all pretty much text automatically (fill in words), and there is also voice to text, which would work fine for someone like @Lon Tanner or @Frank Sanoica , since they can speak, but just not hear what someone else is saying.

@Lon Tanner was having the implant worth it to you? Would you recommend it to others?

I had no hearing before the implant and now I do have some. so yes it was worth it. I did not have to pay anything for the implant.

I wasn't worried about the cost of the implant...but I was wondering if you could hear now and how hard it is to adjust to the implant.

It's time consuming. The silver dollar size sound processor that stays attached to my skull by a magnet requires two batteries to be replaced after 48 hours of use. Learning to hear by listening to AUDIO BOOKS is also time consuming.

Sounds like you are making progress then and I hope eventually the implant will be everything you hoped it would be Lon.

But not one had a 2nd story, and 3 had a basement only large enough for a coal furnace back east in Wheeling, W. Va.

I'm in my best home now, a single-story California Ranch with 2800 sq. ft, 4 bedrooms, 3 baths, a 3-car garage, a game room and a workshop. (And no mortgage!)

    Yowsah, life is good!

I like it; especially the no mortgage part.

It's a little bigger than my house. I only have four bedrooms, a living room, a den (Aka family room) , kitchen, utility room , two bathrooms, a two car carport and ten closets. The game room and shop are in separate buildings out back.
