If you like subs, and are willing to pay a little more, occasionally, I recommend Firehouse Subs. The chain started in 1994 in Florida, and now has over 1100 locations across the country. No comparison to Subway, imo.

In particular, I like their meatball sub. The emphasis is on the meatballs, cheese and roll.

Subway uses more tomato sauce, and their rolls are not nearly as good, imo.

    The prices are higher (average)

    Footlong
    Subway $5.50 Firehouse $8.39

    Small:
    Subway $3.75 Firehouse $5.99

A footlong is way too much for one person I think.

It does look much tastier than Subway's!

I never go to subway though so don't even know if we have a Firehouse Sub in Fresno.

Firehouse Subs is much better than Subway. When I worked for Blue Buffalo, there was a Firehouse Subs near one of the stores that I worked at, and I liked them. I particularly liked their chili, but the meatball sub was another good one.

We have a Subway in Millinocket but I have never been there. First, I stayed away because I didn't like the person who owned it. Now, he no longer owns it but I don't care much for Subway anyhow. If we had a Firehouse Subs, I'd be there.

I'm not sure what they do that's so different, but there's no comparison. Even though Firehouse Subs and Subway serve many of the same subs, the difference in quality is striking. I know the bread has a lot to do with it, but I think there's more to it than that.

Firehouse subs is good. Speaking of chili, I had a bit of a stuffed head and thought some spicey chili sounded just right. They have spices/sauces labelled from 1-10 in hotness level. It must be a log scale because I decided on an 8 and it almost melted my scalp off. It was appropriately named “Liquid Stupid.” Good subs though.

I am a fan of Jersey Mike's, who I think makes the best subs. By contrast, Subway is just awful.

Also agree that Jersey Mike’s is good. Firehouse is just much more convenient for us.

The only problem with ordering a sub is I can make it at home. When I eat out I order something I am too lazy to make myself.
