Here in Britain we call peas peas. Are there non-English peas that are different?Mushy peas are popular here-especially with fish.
Last night we had beef fiatias .. tonight some kind of chili.. made with at pork loin ...cooked in crock pot..never made this before.
Here in the southern states of the US when we say peas we are referring to Purple Hull, Crowder, or Blackeye peas. English peas, Sweet peas, and Green peas are different names for the same peas. There are also Sugar snap peas and similar types that you eat whole without shelling.
We are having Chicken Alfredo and salad, as the youngest is joining us. Wife is getting me used to the taste of chicken. My favorite is still turkey, but I need to change things up to keep from getting bored.
Hopefully this is the last year we miss out of family gatherings due to his job. We normally do not celebrate the holidays much as has always been work work work.. but to sty in the mood will cook a small ham, scalloped potatoes, sweet potatoes- for him, Kentucky green beans, corn on the cob, rolls and a store bought coconut cream pie.
Does anyone ever have corn beef fritters?...I used to love those... but now corned beef gives me heartburn so I can't have it.
We used to mix canned corned beef with leftover mashed potatoes a little onion and an egg to make a fried patty but I was never a fan of them. I haven't used canned corned beef in years, do you still need a key to open it?
Update.. he did not like this at all.He ate it, but said no to me giving it to a neighbor... . meh it was ok, but not a real chili to us.
I must admit I have never heard of corned beef fritters, @Holly Saunders. We only have corned beef on St. Patrick's Day at our house, unless one of our sons corns some moose. Our oldest son has the corning process down pat, and what he makes is delicious, but we have never made fritters with it.
It's nigh on impossible to buy fresh corned beef like you guys get it in the USA, so I've only ever had it in cans, and like you Gloria it gives me horrid reflux.. Anyway Don,, corned beef fritters are easy to make..just make a basic batter mix with flour eggs & Milk... then dip slices of corned beef into the mix, and fry them until they're brown both sides.. It's delicious, I'm sorry I can't have it any more it used to be one of my favourites. ..
I have to go grocery shopping tomorrow..It's Black Friday weekend, so I'm kinda not looking forward to going out ...so for now I'm just going to eat staples out of the freezer ( cue Joe or shirley with a cartoon of someone eating metal staples or fingers ) probably going to have fish fingers in batter tonight.... yes they're called fingers here not fish sticks!!
