I like Queen but didn't Like all the groups of the 80's. I listened to it a lot though because my daughter was in her teen years then...some good, some not so good.

Think I tuned out the 90's...I'll have to see what some of the hits were then.

With a few exceptions, they quit making music after the mid-1970s.

I loved Rock n Roll since 1955, when my mother told me this story: Was on the monkey bars in the playground and a teenager came in with a transister radio playing the new song Rock Around the Clock by Bill Haley & the Comets. She said I got from the top square (used to climb to the top & hang upside down from my knees) to the ground in a second & started dancing.

I think the exception, IMO, are Smashing Pumpkins, Green Day, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nine Inch Nails, Nirvana (esp. Dave Grohl) Foo Fighters, Rage Against the Machine. ETC.

Ha, reminds me of something funny you might not find funny. When Paul Ryan was VP pick he said his favorite band was Rage Against the Machine and my son laughed his head off saying "WHAT? You ARE the Machine!"

Those were all groups my son liked @Lulu Moppet :)

I'm familiar with them mainly because he talked about them all the time then...think Nirvana and the chili peppers were also faves of my daughter.

My daughter is 5 yrs older than her brother. She's 47 now and he's 42!

I personally liked Boy George and Cindy Lauper....didn't care for Madonna except for a few songs.

I hate Paul Ryan more than I do most Democrats.

No, I wouldn't include any of those. My nephew listened to some of those, however.

Just remembered my daughter also liked Pearl Jam and U2!

Now the only group I know she likes is Pit Bull because she goes to their concerts if they're in town.

Also my son was more into heavy metal in his teen years than my daughter...don't think she liked heavy metal.

No matter what their taste in music was or is they turned out to be upstanding citizens...couldn't be prouder. :)

No drugs whatsoever but I'm sure they did some drinking but not til last year HS and college.

I didn't like it but it didn't happen often. Neither ever smoked ...don't even think they tried it. I probably smoked enough for the two of them at that time.:(

Sad, Ken. I'm working hard at removing hate from my heart entirely. Anyway, who would you include?

Let's see. Although some of these began before the 1970s, they were big in the 70s and 80s. I took my son to see Yes at the Forum in Long Beach and was surprised to find that I liked them. My son came home with Pink Floyd's "The Wall" album, thinking they were a new band, but I think "The Wall" was actually a comeback for them, and they were mostly older than I was. For others, I'd include Prince, who was strange but talented, Journey, Aerosmith, the Eagles, and ZZ Top. Oh, and especially Joan Jett. I liked her. By the mid-1980s, all of the musicians had died, however. Of course, there was also Queen, the subject of this thread. I never bought any of their stuff or attended concerts but I didn't change the station if their music came on.

I probably better find something to hide behind before writing this post, but I have never even heard of the guy that this movie is about, or any of his songs, either, as far as I know.
Since my teenage songs were in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s, I really only liked that early Rock & Roll, and my music of choice was country and western; so I missed pretty much all of the later rock music and musicians.
I am not likely to watch the movie, either.

Why not "wiki" Freddy Mercury? Seriously talented, unfortunate to have died as he did.

Funny, but my wife didn't like her son listening to one of his favorite groups, AC/DC, but now she likes some of their tunes. I think she got to like AC/DC because I liked some of their music. She really, really likes Bon Jovi and the old Journey (with Perry as Lead Singer).

Before she was married the first time, believe this or not, both Carlos Santana and Tommy James asked her out on dates. She refused both.
