Good morning! We are in a mild weather pattern this week. Highs in the 60’s, no wind or rain and sunny. Reconnected yesterday from someone in my past on Facebook. The daughter of my husband’s very best friend in Chicago. That was pleasant but last night I had a bad dream about my husband, can’t remember the details but it was unpleasant. A few errands and Curves and that’s about it. Have a great day everyone.
The cold has broken here and it is around 30 F. this morning. Today is our first day of the year with 7 hours of daylight, so that is a good thing. Life is so much nicer when we emerge from the darkness. Our summers are wonderful with the never-ending daylight.
I don’t think I could stand never ending daylight....I need some darkness. I think I’d like your winters though...I’m not a miss sunshine type of person.
How is your pickup doing, @Don Alaska , were you able to get the heater motor fixed and working again , now that it is not below zero cold anymore ?
One of the coolest things was to watch the sun setting on / in Bristol Bay. As it seemed to sink in the bay, the fish would come to the top making the water appear to boil. Just as soon as the sun almost set though, it would begin to rise and as the sun rose higher, the bay would calm down.
@Yvonne Smith I got the motor out, but now it doesn't smoke. I don't know if it was the cold that was making it misbehave or if I totally misdiagnosed the problem. I don't know what it else it could be, though.
We have such long periods of twilight, that I forgot what it was like in the tropics. While visiting the Lower 48, we never noticed the difference, but when we went to Hawaii, when the sun went down, it got DARK quickly, almost instantly. One thing I miss in Alaska is warm summer evenings. My wife doesn't miss them at all and much prefers the daylight. I miss the singing crickets, the fireflies/lightning bugs and star-gazing without heavy winter gear. We still hear the little frogs (the only amphibian here-and there are no reptiles), but only in the early spring, right after break up.
Good morning! Still in the mild days pattern.... Curves and a couple stores this morning. Hate when one store doesn’t carry everything I need or want.
Afternoon all... ......... just after 4pm here Snow has melted,,,for now.. not too cold 39 deg F I've spent most of the day catching up with housework.. on the last furlong now, waiting for the last load of clothes to dry.. Just rewarded myself with a slice of Iced Madeira cake.. (from google pics...)
Good evening from Thailand (it's almost 6pm on Friday) we are a week into our three week vacation here, having spent a few days in Bangkok we flew to Chiang Mai in the north, and rented a car there to drive around the Mae Song Hon Loop, we are now in Pai a small town close to the border with Burma, it's a bit cooler here at 30c (85f) after 35c (95f) in Bangkok, but still a tad warm for me. We drove for 4 hours yesterday most of it in the mountains with continuous hairpin bends, the car we have is a new Toyota Yaris and corners very well, petrol at 50p a litre makes getting around cheap I will post some photos in the travel section. Enjoy your weekend .... The view from the porch where I am sat while posting this
