Not just here, but perhaps other places in the U.S. as well. Holly, there are those folks here that don't even know what Motown music is. Motown is OLD music, from a whole different generation than today.

Except for the fact that everyone is being encouraged to separate themselves from everyone else today, for the purpose of race-baiting, why would we consider some music to be black music, white music, or any other kind of music? If the idea is to understand or appreciate the origins, that's fine, but music is music. You either like it or you don't, and all the rest of that stuff shouldn't matter. Rock and roll originated from the Blues, which originated in the black population, yet rock and roll is considered to be white music. Do we disassociate ourselves from any white person who liked the Blues because they were appropriating black culture? White people aren't supposed to wear dreadlocks anymore, and you have to be Mexican in order to serve Mexican cuisine at your restaurant. Isn't there some point where people will be able to come together and call enough of the nonsense? Music is music. If you like it, you like it; if you don't, you don't, and why the hell should anyone else care?

Holly, I've spent a fair amount of time in Jacksonville and have relatives there and I can assure everyone that there ISN'T "that kind of divide" there, except in Cody's imagination. Every time I think this can't get any more ridiculous, it gets more ridiculous.

Caucasian retirees in Jacksonville, in Detroit, in Los Angeles, in Peoria, in Phoenix, hell even in Maine listen to Motown and music written and performed by Black entertainers. Black retirees in those cities listen to Frank Sinatra and Celine Dion, and Michael Buble. Why in the world should anybody be "surprised" or "shocked" by that?

Am I wrong or is this possibly an Archie Bunker moment? Possibly the episode with Sammy Davis Jr. or the many scenes with Lionel or George Jefferson.
Same stuff, same insanity versus reality. Hilarious!

Cody, you have a way of saying things sometimes that sounds kind of offensive to others....maybe that's what happened with your mailman and he felt the need to respond as he did back to you.

Say what you want , but none of you live HERE, so you don't know what our mailman and I know. And, remember, HE made the statement, with a smile, and we both laughed about it. But, in the last 10 years we have lived here, we have found out there is a division in music here. Like hearing/reading that or not, it's absolutely TRUE. People in this city don't sit around listening to Motown...….I've done some research on that and it's true.

Actually, I could say "don't disagree with someone who actual lives in the city where something goes on." I wonder how many of you have been to Wyoming, Montana, the Dakota's, Nebraska or Kansas and can truthfully say what goes on there? I've been to those states, so I'd know.

My wife, who is a Christian as well, told me, after reading this post "what she is saying is crazy. Cody mentioned to our black mailman about the kind of music we listen to and this lady and others are criticizing him for that. Stupid, really stupid. Just like the tattoo topic he done. Everyone is right and him and me are completely wrong. That is wrong right there."

Don't like the damn Thread, simply delete it! Perhaps Ken does like all the controversy that can happen on this forum, I don't know. Anyway, guess it's time to move on.

@Cody Fousnaugh When you start a thread...you should be prepared for other people's opinions to be different from yours.

Just happen to live in the "day and age" of things be labeled. I would really think you'd know that. But, if you'd research "black music", you'd see a website called just that "Black Music". So there! But no, you rather criticize. Research does wonders.
