Same here. No kindergarten, most didn't go then, in our school district.

Also had a very nice 2nd grade teacher. I think maybe a first grade teacher has to be a little tough and scary. Imagine dealing with thirty plus 5 and 6 year olds who have never had any experience with this "school thing" before. Some probably never had to sit still that long before. It's hard to reason with little kids.

Maybe we were lucky. Maybe the schools knew that and planned it that way on purpose. Ha!

The IRS finally caught up with me (not!).

I thought taxes would be easier from now on because I finally tied up some loose ends in 2017, but I get a letter from IRS today saying I owe a large amount of money for 2017 taxes. I think I have all the information to contest this, but it is going to be time consuming.

And...my printer/copier is not working. Would you believe, a small piece of plaster fell from the ceiling and guess where it landed---right in the paper feed slot of the printer, and it won't recognize paper, from anywhere. I have to either take it apart and see if I can fix it, or get a new printer, and I have to make copies of anything I send the IRS.

I like the cartoon, not the fact you were contacted by the IRS. I have been contested four times by the IRS, saying I owed additional. The first time I let it go because ir only fifty-five dollars I owed them and not worth dthe hassle to prove my point, although I thought I could have. The other three times I met with an agent two or three times on each occasion, and on each occasion they agreed they owed me a small amount of money, in amounts of $76.00, $618.00, and I think the other was $248.00. I told each agent I couldn't believe would go to all this trouble and spend so much time on a penny ante salesman. The $648.00 was claiming my mother in law who lived with us for seventeen years. The other three instances was traveling sales expenses. A lot of the time the amount they say you owe is easier to pay that going through the hassle of contesting. That was eons ago.Don't know how they are now to deal with. Good luck.

I've had changes before on maybe 3 occasions. Always they owed me. The amount they say I owe them this time is more than the total taxes I paid in 2017! ..Can't afford to let it go, or I would just pay it like you say.

I don't like to pretend to be mysterious, so here's the story: . I bought 4 individual stocks back in the 1980's, and just forgot about them. Some turned out to be winners and some losers. Sold all 4 in 2017.

The brokerage firm (E*trade) reported the amount of the sales to the IRS, but did *not* report the cost basis, although they calculated that also. I just went by what they had for the cost basis, but probably could have added more, if I felt greedy.

Apparently they just assume you are honest about the cost basis, and randomly flag returns occasionally.

Anyway, I'll have to go through all the arithmetic again, just to make sure there isn't a calculation error also. This is the first time I've regretted not paying someone to do taxes.

Go with a different firm that provides you with the basis cost, @Nancy Hart if you invest again.

They (E*Trade) *did* provide the basis costs, but didn't report them to the IRS. I just copied what they had calculated onto the tax form. I would guess they don't report it because some people will think up some additional costs.

Today was major house cleaning out at the farm, Part I. Wednesday, Part II: floor mopping and dusting. :p:p

This is what I found in the bathroom under a toilet seat---another toad. It is about an inch long. How on earth did it get there? Why do these things happen? Toads, mice and bats.

I put him outside, and he disappeared.

I just found out the rental man bought the house across the street. It is a duplex. This is getting scary. :(

Finally finished the clothes rod. It took me forever to decide how to do this, then cut the pipe. Used my dad's old antique Craftsman pipe cutter to make a perfect circle, then a hacksaw. :p

I've said this before and regretted it, "The hard part is now over." All that's left are
    1. a hook for a center support for the rod
    2. baseboards and inside door facing
    3. some kind of temporary cover over the pipes coming down in the corner, from the attic.

Right now the cover is very heavy duty plastic. Something tells me it will stay that way forever. There is a lot more room than I expected. Very little difference in temp between the closet and bedroom now. I wish I had done an even better job on the insulation.

The paint is light green. I don't know why it shows up beige.

The microwave out at the farm is an antique, finally conked out, started smoking. . It weighs a ton, but worse than that, it's too big to get your arms wrapped around. Easy to get it down on the floor, easy to move around with a cheap dolly (except for stairs), but impossible to lift up, once it gets down on the ground.

I remembered a video that speculated how the Egyptians might have lifted stones while building the pyramids---rock them from side to side and keep adding stuff underneath until you get it the right height.

The missing step at the end was just a tilt upward onto the tailgate. I love puzzles like this. Only took me a half hour. :p It will probably live in the back of the truck now for weeks.

Moral of the story? . Never throw away a good pallet, or pieces of scrap lumber. :D
