The recent airline crash was apparently the result of a inexperienced pilot. Initially blame was focused on the plane its self and possible malfunctions, but pilot error appears to be the real cause. Who ever allows inexperienced pilots to fly should be held liable.

I think the pilot had 8,000 hours of flight time.

This is why I don’t post here anymore...misinformation without reliable links....my biggest pet peeve.

It was the co pilot with 200 hrs.

Besides Captain Getachew, who even at such a young age had accrued 8,000 flight hours, the accident killed the first officer, Ahmed Nur Mohammod Nur, a more recent academy graduate, who had logged 200 flight hours.

I think they prefer to come up with 'another' reason - leaving it as it is, no one wants to fly in those planes
Wo betide them if there is another crash :(

Good - I don't read the papers so rely on the news and you get what you're given

Also @Lon Tanner ....co pilots will usually have less experience ...how are they ever going to get it if they aren’t allowed to fly???

They need actual flying time not just simulators.

And with this I’m out of here.

We have been watching a series on the weather channel all about airplane accidents.

A few episodes ago a pilot and quite a few of the passengers survived. During an interview the pilot stated quite clearly that in most cases the "official" cause of the accident was pilot error, however the real causes are rarely made known.

    Why?

Simple .. if the real cause - which is most often a failure of a part on the plane - was made known people would stop flying.

And in so many cases there is nobody left to defend themselves.

It's a practice that has been going on for many years.

The interesting thing about that pilot's statement is that, in this program, they are actually providing answers and many time it truly is not pilot error.

The cause of many crashes is missing parts, maintenance failures and errors as well as electronics failing.

So when I see pilot error as a cause for the crash I just shake my head and doubt that the statement is truth and feel horrible for the family.

Just as in surgery. If someone dies on the table, it is almost always put down to anesthesia death, even if the surgeon screwed up. A certain number of people die from side effects of anesthesia, but when a surgeon is given credit, a lawsuit inevitably follows, and the government gets involved. Not so with anesthesia deaths.

Really don't know, @Frank Sanoica. I guess it is in historical context and that just the way the standards are written. I suspect a lot of time was spent investigating anesthesia deaths and coming to no conclusion as to cause.
