@Shirley Martin "I am not a fan of her politics but I do admire her youthful idealism. I also pity her naivete. Like so many others who have gone to Washington, she actually thinks that she can make a difference."

I have not kept a close eye on this thread, but knew the new Congresswoman was being thoroughly discussed. Realizing I've seen many mentions of her name in the news lately, I have written off much of the prattle. However, today I came across an editorial which caught my eye, regarding legislation she has introduced. The writer seems pretty well-endowed with intellectual ability.

The legislation, in brief, is titled the "Green New Deal. It will "overhaul the entire U.S. economy". ( ). One provision calls for retrofitting all existing buildings in the United States with state of the art technologies such as energy-efficient windows. The author calculates this provision alone would require that a quarter-million skilled workers, employed 40 hours per week, would need 10 years to finish the task.

I've decided to scan and post this editorial below. If you care, take the time to read it; my viewpoint toward Cortez is now changed beyond repair! And, it is after all, public record. Frank

As a New Yorker Lulu, you must admit that those things in our geo-political world that are deemed as improbabilities, nay, even impossibilities are often the very things that become realities. e.g. the twin towers, 9/11

I have lived long enough and hard enough to know that there are no longer any surprises to be had. To discount any possibility, note, Any possibility is to leave one’s self mentally and / or physically unprepared for that which was once deemed as absurd.

Are @Shirley Martin’s concerns regarding Ocasio’s future a thing to speculate? I do not know, but I am not a seer and though I may not agree with her statement, it is not beyond a possibility hence my reasoning for not replying to her statement.

Ocasio-Cortez is cute in a Goldie Hawn sort of way. I don't know how well it will work when she ages. Like Obama, she can read a teleprompter, but she doesn't do well on her own. At some point, the stupid is going to overrun the cute, and people are going to wonder why we're letting her have a voice in a national body. Then again, we have Maxine Waters and some others, who surely couldn't have graduated from junior high school on the up and up.

Posting in such a mature manner, to titillate the gang. Right, Don? So well said, so well thought out; bringing up nothing that has been smirked and giggled at before. Original, that's the word. No, no, the key word is necessary.

I think you are right about being a keeper. At first I thought she is just like my kids used to be when we went to Toys R Us. They had no clue about the cost of what they wanted.

Then I thought about the Green New Deal & conclude she IS just like my kids were at Toys R Us. Replacing energy efficient window panes explained in the article that Frank Sanoica posted covers only replacement, not the cost of the resources needed, the energy & cost to manufacture, the transport to & from manufacturing & the cost of disposal. Add to that the rest of the world Not doing the same and it becomes quite clear to me the Green New Deal is ludicrous.

She needs to be kept so that exposing progressive ideas are seen in the light of day.

She's still a keeper. She'll learn the trade, get to know the game. I want the Speaker to train her
throughly, give her some good committees, then take the collar off her, and say "Sic'em."

That is an interesting post about what AOC needs to learn. Not sure what trade she needs to learn but for me AOC is not being held back. What part of AOC being in the news daily makes you think AOC is being held back?

She excites a large part of the voting population, those who some of us might refer to as brainless. They don't consider, or care, that there is a cost to everything that the government does and, since the government doesn't produce anything other than debt, that cost is borne by those who work for a living.

She definitely isn't being held back. I expect that Miz Pelosi and other powerful Democrats wish they could hold her back. Or put a muzzle on her. But, I say, " Y'all hush! Let the girl talk!" :D

Public education has worked for decades to remove the ability to think critically and make logical decisions.

Think she is just a little puppy dog controlled by others.

But think she will go far.

Well, I'm holding her back (figure of speech). I want Madam Secretary to train her, then I want her to run over to Nevada to see a politician extra ordinary, Harry Reed, for a short course training as an attack dog, then I'm going to turn her loose for short periods.

    By the time
    Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
    Finishes her first term,
    when people speak of her
They may use words such as
    Great politician, Stateswoman.
    Yes Sir, a real keeper.
