I like the large pipe organs too, especially the ones that have a rank of 32-foot Pedal Pipes! I love that rumble! Hal
He sure does...and with only 2 manuals too! Of course, when you have several assistants working the Stops, 2 manuals are enough! Hal
I go to church almost every Sunday. Several years ago, I left the Catholic church, which I joined shortly before I got married to avoid the same tug of war my parents went through when I was growing up. She was Lutheran and he was Catholic, and I bounced back and forth my entire childhood. I rejoined the Lutheran church, and found a happy home, where I not only hear the Word of God each week, but during bible study, I am allowed to ask an endless stream of questions, because I want to learn as much as I can. The congregation is small, so I feel almost like I'm going to a friends house each week.
I am getting a bit curious @Lon Tanner. You have started 3 or 4 nice threads very close together and have gotten some pretty good responses. I’m not having any particular problem with it but I am curious as to why you start the threads but yet proclaim to have no interest in the subject. Me thinks perhaps you might be trying to find out something that you have heretofore missed and might like to know more about that which you have denied for so long. Sometimes people come to a sort of gray area after a period of time and start questioning their own commitments. People of all faiths do so it wouldn’t be strange if someone who has no belief system other than in themselves to come up with a couple of doubts. Lord knows I have had to sit down and examine my own faith because I do falter at times and wonder if I’m on the right path. It’s natural. If the former couple of sentences have no merit, the logic is somehow lost and it would seem to be a grand waste of time. Don’t get me wrong, I like the threads but for example, @Sheldon Scott has posted a couple of threads but they’re generally asking why Christians believe this or that but yours are based simply on “what do you” and not “why do you?” Again, just curious as I am sure, others are too.
@Bobby Cole This is really none of my business, as I am not among those curious you refer to, but as an on-looker, I must comment, and you may not like it: Your post above seems to be suggesting that Lon may be at a cross-roads spiritually, and that this dilemma is met by many faiths (no doubt there), but Lon has professed no interest in what you carefully termed "commitments" while meaning by that, spiritual dedication. Why did you write this, knowing of Lon's past comments regarding his personal beliefs, and what did you hope to achieve? I don't want to believe that you are tactfully "selling", but that's how it's appearing, at least to me. Frank
If I didn’t think it was any of your business I would not have written the post for all to see but...... You and I went through a rather unpleasant experience before when you accused me of something similar. I asked a question. It’s simple and I asked Lon. But I’ll humor you just because I’m a nice guy even though yes, your post does cause a bit of a stir. For one, I have never understood why an Atheist would have anything to do with a faith based lifestyle if they were not actually seeking some help understanding what it was about. Why waste so much time for something you have no interest in? I could understand a Muslim asking a Christian or visa versa why they believe what they believe or even what their beliefs entail but someone who says over and over how disinterested they are with any faith but yet is asking questions leaves me curious. Maybe there is a cross road situation or maybe it’s because one is bored and wants to give the rest of us something to do or maybe Lon is really interested in what we are all about. Again, it’s simple so put your paranoid brain back where it belongs and relax.
@Bobby Cole Bobby, you are really a piece! You are double-talking around and around the fact that Lon put forth his views on the issue of "belief", and yet you push on about what Lon is "really interested in". You once called me an asshole in a private conversation, as you remonstrated in a similar way to now......used a burst of agitation, then followed for months with "likes" about every damned thing I said, like a puppet seeking forgiveness. Your statement about my "paranoid brain" greatly classifies you, guy. Think about what you are saying, or preparing to say, before you let your anger propel you forward. We each dig our own holes; some dig more vigorously than others, and disappear first...... Do you understand?? Frank
1. I put likes on things I like no matter who it is posting it. I put likes on POSTs, not people. 2. Yes, you were being a total ass. 3. Who was one of the people you came crying to when you were banned? 4. Go have another beer and write back when you sober up.
I haven't been to a Church Service since my Lutheran Baptismal in 1948 at age 12. That's 71 years, my friends! Harold Ivan Pollner
I do something almost weekly at 1 of our events, most that have attended never knew a church did what we do, for instance Easter we had a board with balloons with numbers in them instead of eggs the youth could pop them with 2 adults closely watching for safety with an arrow or knife and get the number inside and match it for a prize we had slightly under 100 kids all got their picture taken while parents watched, all helped clean up afterwards ALL. Not parents but those involved. We have LTC classes, shooting matches and training seminars Oil change Saturdays at times Weekly movie nights Pet healthcare at cost of meds only Help needed Saturdays just helping members do chores Recently had a knife sharpening class Fishing trips, hunting trips, predator calling classes, camp outs, outdoor cooking Roping cattle, trail rides, team penning weekly All catered to rural lifestyles and members suggestions just a sample of what got me interested in attending for sure not the same old thing
