Damp out there but not raining to start my day off....up at 6am, even tho' I didn't go to bed until after midnight after a very long hard day..dunno why I'm having trouble sleeping these days. I can get to sleep , but the problem is staying asleep for more than 4 or 5 hours, then all the previous days stresses kick in and I wakes me up completely! I\m hoping to go out and buy a whole new load of bedding today..new mattress and pillow covers...fitted sheets for deep mattresses which are quite hard to get in the stores...and some new feather and down pillows. ...then with luck we'll be going out for lunch this afternoon at the pub .....so no cooking for me today Have a good Sunday folks!!
It's pretty common evidently Holly even my daughter Caroline and several of her friends in there early 40s suffer from waking up at night, it's evidently normal to have broken sleep see here , but when younger I used to go through the night. Now when I wake at 2 or 3 in the morning I take a sliver of zopiclone which knocks me out in 20 minutes for a few more hours sleep, I have been doing this on and off for about 7 years now. I know it's not recommended for long term use and you do become tolerant of it, but the small amount I take works enough to send me off. Quote In the 15th and 16th centuries frequently woke after a few hours sleep, During this waking period people were quite active. They often got up, went to the toilet or smoked tobacco and some even visited neighbours. Most people stayed in bed, read, wrote and often prayed. Countless prayer manuals from the late 15th Century offered special prayers for the hours in between sleeps. And these hours weren't entirely solitary - people often chatted to bed-fellows or had sex. Ten strange things people do at night Enjoy your shopping for new bedding Holly!
Sounds like it will be a good day for you Holly. Your giraffe made me smile. Thank you Sundays are so sweet. Here's Celine Dion and Josh Groban singing The Prayer...
Thanks for that link Terry...unfortunately it's not possible for me to wake up and do something else and go back to sleep after a couple of hours..one because I have to be up for work at 5am...and also...even on my days off..I still wake early, and once I'm up I'm up...I can rarely unless I'm poorly go back to bed and sleep...so I feel like a lump of lard all day..exhausted but unable to sleep...or worse..napping for an hour and then creating a worse scenario the following evening where I get even less sleep due to the napping * sigh* GP gave me 5mg diazepam to take as a muscle relaxant for my back to prevent spasms from causing me agonies in the morning...and they worked wonderfully for a couple of months as a sleep aid knocking me out for up to 7 hours ..but no more sadly..and I certainly don't want to up the dose because they can be highly addictive .. so I kinda feel stuck between a rock and a hard pillow...
I only posted the link out of interest Holly, I never get up at night as I would wake up completely and then I would feel worse in the morning, I wasn't suggesting you got up either, though my daughter Caroline has started doing just that, but she self prescribes zopiclone at times because it works so well with no after effects in the morning. It must be very difficult having to get up for work after a night of broken sleep though, and you have my sympathies with that.
Oh no, don't get me wrong Terry the link was interesting...but yes you're right it is very difficult not getting enough sleep then working an 11 or 12 hour day..
Wishing you well with the mattress shopping Holly. Hope it helps ease the problem. ... I'm all about those down pillows, comforters myself... a little piece of heaven. And my motto is 'you can't have enough pillows' ..lol. I woke up this morning without my usual aches, which is rare. Whenever that happens, I think I've died.. It's a damp, cold day in the south of Texas this morning .. more rain coming. But it's an NFL football Sunday here, and I love football, so it will be a good day. (I think!) And I don't need to babysit my two young granddaughters today. They are still on break from school, for Christmas recess until Tuesday, and that has been taking up a lot of my time for the last couple weeks. Good day to everyone ....
Morning Bonnie...enjoy your day of R&R with the football....I do hope your pain eases as the day goes on, absolutely no fun to be in such agony that you can't think straight. ((gentle hugs)) I'm not shopping for a mattress tho' , I have a really good quality tempurpedic mattress......I'm just replacing some mattress covers and pillow covers ( the ones that go under the sheets)...I do like some really good thick quilted underlays on the pillows and mattresses, and some beautiful quality pillow cases and duvet covers ( do you call Duvets ''comforters'' in the USA?) ...and I agree with you, the pillows have to be very good quality, and loads of them too..although I only actually sleep on one...I do like a lot on my beds..
I have a duvet cover, but it's a heavy cotton material (?) that the comforter slides into when it gets cold. My comforter is down feathers. Actually, I have two, one light weight for summer, heavy one for winter months. And I use them both together when it's really cold, since they don't weigh anything ..
Good morning fellow seniors, and senior-itas. It's a bit chili here in Iowaland this morning. Our weather station says it's 28 degrees with a 10-15MPH breeze, under clear skies at 6AM. It's only supposed to hit the upper 20's here today. Sounds like a great day to sit by the fire. And that's about all I got planned for today. Did laundry yesterday. Don't know why I hate that chore so. Once I get started, it ain't so bad. The laundry room on my floor is just across the hall from my apartment, so I don't have to hang around and wait. Does anyone else here like 'mater beers? I once worked with an old fellow from some other state. He introduced me to them. One morning after a long, hard night at work, he said, "let's usn's go git some 'mater beers". At that time I had never heard of them. We stopped at my favorite little blue tavern on the south edge of my town and bellied up to the bar. My friend ordered a large pitcher of " 'mater beers". Wanda, the barmaid dumped one of those small cans of tomato juice into a large pitcher and filled it up with beer. I loved it. That one pitcher led to 3 or 4 more, and I was ever after hooked on 'mater beers. So, as I sit here thinking about what breakfast will be this AM, I'm wishing I had a pitcher of 'mater beer.
Good morning everyone, heading home today after almost 2 weeks here. I hate the drive and I'm always stressful what I will find when I pull into my driveway. Usually it's something beeping like a smoke alarm battery. The drive wears me out so I usually just unload the car and vegetate. Speaking of sleeping, I thought I was getting a good 8 hrs sleep every night but I'm always tired. After Getting my fit bit flex I see I have a very restless night and only average about 6 hrs, up a few times and restless anywhere from 16 to 24 times! Yikes My grandsons here have different return times. 12 yr old goes back Tuesday and the 16 yr old has another week. 12 yr old will get a week off in February ....they are in the same school district and always have different days off, makes it hard for parents who work or to even plan a trip.
Gosh, Chrissy ... I'm worn out from watching my grandkids, and I didn't even leave home. I don't envy your trips back and forth. Hope all is well when you get home. Speaking of FitBit, I got a Charge HR as a Christmas gift. ... still trying to figure it all out. I don't want to wear it at night though - don't want anything on my wrist at bedtime - that would keep waking me up I think. I like the steps, heart and calorie log though.
Mine doesn't have a heart but I can log calories. Usually everything bothers me, can't even wear a watch but I don't feel this at all.
I made it home and nothing is beeping, so far so good. It I can muster up a little bit of energy I'll go to my nearest supermarket for a few things, if not I'll survive til tomorrow.
Yep Duvets are what we call Comforters....ours are made from feather and Down. 13.5 tog for winter....and 4.5 tog for summer... I got quite a few quilted mattress covers and Pillow covers yesterday...I do like to have a nice comfy layer between the mattress and the bottom sheet...as well as between the pillow and the p/case...!!
