    @Joy Martin
I don't recall that you have yet voiced personal feelings regarding the firearms issues, assuming, maybe incorrectly, that above, is stated facetiously.

What are those feelings, might I ask? (I won't fight back regardless of stance, but would like to reveal my wife's parents' feelings).

Absolutely ! Charlton Heston was always one of my favorite actors , and I think that I probably saw all of the westerns that he made. Many of our old-time western-hero type of actors were all very supportive of people’s constitutional rights.
As for the NRA, I was allowed to join that as a union member back when i was in junior high, and part of the local rifle range that we had there.
Many of us belonged, and went each week for training in how to use and care for a weapon, as well as competition shooting for our age levels.
Learning how to use a firearm safely is something that I have always been glad of, and also taught my children once they were old enough to learn how to shoot a rifle.

My uncles and father belonged to a gun club when I was a kid and they went deer hunting, dad went along to eat and drink. He was NOT a gun person. Never had a gun in my hands or home and want no parts of one. I'd love to see a gun free world.

Just hearing of all the grief in Syria and children dying left and right at the hands of guns, horrible deadly stuff.

If there was ever a Pacifist it's me.

Joy I respect your views all I would ever ask is the same back for me, I know in my heart I saved my father's and my life by being LEGALLY armed and acting to defend us, there is no doubt there, stay safe.

I can relate to what you are saying about all of the killing, and I think that it is horrible, too. But, for hundreds of years before guns existed, people have been killing each other in horrible ways.
I don’t have a weapon anymore because Bobby is against it, but when I lived alone, I kept a little pistol in my vehicle, and my rifle near my bed at home.
If someone had tried to hurt my children, you better believe that I would have been out there with my rifle , trying to protect my family. It is the people who have NO defense who are ruthlessly killed by evil people, and not good people who are protecting their family that is the problem wiiith owning weapons.
And as far as hunting goes, during the depression , people didn’t have much to eat, and killing a deer was a necessary way to feed the family.
The game warden actually gave my mom and dad extra ammunition so that they were able to shoot deer for the hungry people who had no way to hunt one themselves.
I am sure that those families were glad that my folks had weapons and knew how to shoot them !

It's obvious we all have our gun stories.

Unfortunately, history recounts that many of the greatest pacifists were assassinated by firearms. Eliminating them entirely from given segments of society is virtually impossible, unfortunately. How would we define "firearms"?

I can cut off the white tips of several hundred "light-anywhere" matches, place them in a piece of water pipe followed by a child's glass marble, and use it to kill someone. Is it a "firearm"?

Firearms and shooting have been a big part of my entire life, still is, most all my friends are the same way both male and female.
I just hope all that live in a bubble of denial, that it never gets popped for their sake. Violence can happen anytime to anyone. Life has proven that to me.

We have a neighbor not to far away from me that has several NFA items all LEGAL registered, today is one of a very few he will bring one out and shoot it later this afternoon an original MG34, a belt or 2 several times a year, then we all clean it. Most would not believe what he has been offered for it. All matching with extras.

July 4 will be another outing.

A lot of us were not brought up as a way of their lives. I don't believe I've lived in a bubble of denial.

Agreed but sure have met many that were. Being prepared both mentally and physically saved myself and my dad's life I was just cut up, dad stabbed in the right eye and lost it, I stopped it from going farther, we just led very different lived yours for you mine for me. Doubt either of us would ever change our views here we just disagree is all on some things.

The people who stopped it had guns. Twelve people died waiting for a good guy with a gun to come around.
