just wondering if a lot of you take Melatonin that brings on the dreams.

I never took Melatonin until about 10 yrs ago so I was about 70 or so, and prior to that no sleep aids and h hardly ever dreams.

I use a sleep combo with a low dose Melatonin and some B Vits that are calming, and now using a HGH homeopathic gel two times a day and my sleep is even deeper and dreams are more. ummm

I have taken melatonin for around 20 years now. I read the amazing book, The Melatonin Miracle, and that explained all of the many, many benefits that this necessary hormone has for our body, how it helps to protect us from aging, and make the other hormones work right.
I started out with a really low dose (3 mg) and over the years, gradually increased my dose and now take 10 mg about a half hour before bed each night.
I can’t remember if I dreamed more after i started taking it or not, because it was such a long time ago, now. I think that my dreams might be more vivid, but I am not sure.
I do know that it really helps me to get a sound night’s sleep, and is a hormone that my body needs to be healthy.

Oh so you are one of the 10mger's of Melatonin. I can't imagine. I take 1/2mg to 1mg about an hour or so before the head hits the pillow but with the low dose I take a couple others from Vit B family. Learned about the low dose protocol from LifeExtension.

I've done a lot of reading about short term use and although I take it for maybe 10 yrs now I take such a low dose so I'm not concerned.

You make that sound like a criminal offense, @Joy Martin ! If your dose works for you, and my dose works for me, that is what is important in my estimation.
I (for one) am exceedingly tired of getting a rude response from you all of the time, and nothing even halfway friendly. I will NOT be responding to any of your posts from now on if this is how you intend to present yourself here.
I know you said that you did not come here to make friends, and it appears that you definitely do not want to be considerate in your replies, either.

I too take 10mg a night and have been doing so for quite a while with no ill effect. No matter where you learned your “protocol” I will bet I can show the exact opposite from another source.
Just like BMI and several other standards by which an average person is supposed to abide by, the intake of Melatonin is an abstract item which cannot be an across the board measurement.
Similar to what @Yvonne Smith wrote, what works for you is great but works for another is up to them or rather, us. Community forums are not necessarily the best place to get health care information even if the person providing said information writes that it comes from some uh....reliable source.
The outstanding problem of some folks giving health tips is it’s an all or nothing I’m the expert kind of a thing, which to me is the epitome of the saying “a little bit of information is worse than none at all.”

Bottom line here is that yes, I do take melatonin and yes, 10mg a night with absolutely no change in my dreams but perhaps that’s because 90% of the time I am in complete control over what I dream.

I've taken melatonin for a while and the jury's still out on whether it is working for me or not.

Years ago, I was taking quinine and WOWEE! It turned my normally vivid dreams into the screaming meemies. I had to stop that.

Please explain, Yvonne, how your interpretation of her post resulted in this answer. I see no rudeness expressed, nor a lack of friendliness. I think I understand the language well enough to be in a position to say this, but perhaps I know not how to "read between the lines"?

Never had need of a sleep aid luckily. I find that 500 mg a day of CBD oil. (bacon flavor because I share with my cat)) does the trick. But I do have more vivid and waking dreams depending on the dose of fear porn thrust on me by the media the previous day.

I still dream a lot and remember many of my dreams into the next day...I'm going over last nights' BIG dream, I was dating Donald Trump and we were headed for an Italian Restaurant and remember us parking the car and talking about cold hands and warm heart issue and getting to the restaurant where we met with a long line to get in, we waited as the line moved fast....... I took many more sleep aids early in this thread and and in recent months, only 1/4mg Melatonin....

I can recall at least 6 dreams with DT in them in the last year or so but last nitght's was strong...

I never had major feelings for DT but never hated him, but not fond of him.....maybe I really want to like him and see more good from him.

My mom had a dream book and she was always looking up her dreams. I never went that far.

I’m glad you are keeping Donald busy. Now the guys can dream about Melania without the fear of being caught.

Why Donald Trump, I wonder....perhaps he represents an aspect of yourself. It would be interesting to know if anyone else dreams about well-known people.

I initially took melatonin 10 mg to no effect. It did nothing for me at all, so I stopped. A SIL recommended a sustained release form that released 3 mg immediately then released the 7 mg over the entire night. That worked okay, but I found I slept too soundly, and the dreams were very vivid. I dropped back to 3 mg. and found those to be about right and I take it most, but not every, night. If I think I will have trouble getting to sleep, the 3 mg. dose does the trick now. I don't know why it didn't work initially. I have a friend with a very complicated medical history that sometimes takes 60 mg. of melatonin at night. I just can't imagine....

One grandson who is autistic takes 0.5 mg. every night, and my daughter says that it makes a remarkable difference in his behavior and ability to concentrate. Stuff I have read has said that sensitivity to melatonin increases with age, so seniors are more responsive to it that younger folks.

During my work years, I always had 2 dreams: my Main Dream during REM sleep, and then a second dream after I would wake up ad then go back to sleep. The 2 dreams were not connected in any way, and I always remembered them both. For some period I was writing them down when I woke up just for grins, but I stopped.

    Now I'm retired, I have a single dream...I think.
