Weekly in the spring and summer - I hate cutting the grass, mostly the back yard. Also, vacuuming under the bed. I've not found one vacuum cleaner ad that mentions "good for vacuuming under beds." Even if it's a cannister style, depending on how the hose is tilted, it may not work under the bed. There's 7'' of space between the floor and the bed frame. I have a 20.00 stick vac that barely fits, but will vacuum under the bed, if held exactly right. If I hold it a little too high, it hits the bed frame and cuts off the vacuum switch on top. Too low and the suction piece tilts up and doesn't pick up anything.
There isn't a chore I particularly dislike nor do I actually enjoy housework. I guess I just accept it and do it like a donkey. What I actually dislike is that housework as such is a time eater that prevents me from doing something else that I really enjoy. But then I often remember the time when I was young and we had to use the laundry facility downstairs almost all day long and didn't have any mod cons. Of all the chores I like ironing the most probably because it gives me the feeling that I'm really doing something just for myself. I'm not available for rent, though, just in case someone is thinking along these lines.
Me too, Von. I think if I had a cat (which I don't), I'd have to hire someone to clean the litter box. So it's a good thing I don't have a cat.
I don' t mind cleaning the two bath tubs..but is very hard for me to do.I have knee pad, but getting up is hard and painful. Am going to pay my GD to do that while they are here.
I don't like Ironing... I rarely do it nowadays except on the odd occasion. Fortunately nowadays I can buy most of my clothing which doesn't need ironing once it's been in the dryer!!
@Holly Saunders When I was a kid, but before my sister moved away, she and my Mother meticulously ironed in the evening after supper, most of the clothes which had been washed and dried, outdoors, during the day. But first, they had to be sprinkled with water using a one-quart glass soda bottle fitted with a special flared sprinkler head. The washing machine was an Easy Spin Dryer: It had 2 tubs, large one with an agitator, smaller one spun out the excess water. The "automatic washer" came later, incorporating both operations in one tub. I have never understood the need to have wrinkle-free everything; is that not the reason for ironing? Frank
I think we all had mothers who ironed everything..some more than others. My ex sister-in-law even ironed knickers and socks!!...I'm not that bad, however I like to have things crease free... but I do curse whoever invented ironing...none of us would be any the wiser about creases to this day!!
I had to iron my own clothes plus plus when I was a kid and it followed through until well after I left the military. But, as to the query of hiring out my chores, no, I’m too cheap to pay someone else to do them.
Well, get you a partner. Go out to the rodeo, dance, ice cream parlor, or most any place folks gather. Spot who you want, grab him/her by the arm and say, "Come on, have I got a deal for you." Or some comment. Find what to need and take charge.
