Lately, I have been spending far less time on Facebook than I used to, but I do log in at least a couple of times a day, and usually more often.
I would say that those who rely on Facebook for their social needs should get out more often and meet people in person.
For me, it is more of an informational activity than a social one. So much good information to be learned in the various groups online, similar to a forum about a dedicated topic.
I quit Facebook years ago. I thought if I have to like one more 'I'm an empowered woman' or picture of cats, I would just barf. Then there's the chat pop up from strange men who come from countries I didn't know speak English. Then the pictures of my kids taking selfies in the middle of their pot party. It just quit working for me on so many levels. I didn't do any online interaction for several years till I ran into this forum while searching for senior discounted insurance. LOL.
I was on FB for several years, mostly to communicate with family and to search for people in my past. As family died off all that was left it seemed were a bunch of superficial likes. I got off a year or so ago.
I'm on facebook and also a few groups. Local sales groups have been helpful. Some people on this forum I see on facebook.
I look in on FB everyday. Keeps me up to date on what folks around me are doing. Facebook has changed the world. Exposed a ton of idiocy and a smattering of useful thought. Facebook make people stupid I think. Several years ago my granddaughter got hit in the head with a lacrosse stick. School policy was that head injuries were automatically transported by helicopter to a regional hospital. My son called and informed me,we had the appropriate conversation and made the appropriate arrangements. ON THE PHONE! When the Missus and I returned from the hospital our feeds were filled with people notifying us of the incident and wondering about our level of caring because we did not wantonly and vicariously display our problems and concerns on a public platform.
I was invited to join FB a few years ago, but I declined, because EMAIL, my Apple Valley Senior Citizens Club, and this Forum all serve my social requirements. Yowzah... Hal
