I'll always remember the last line of Kilmer's "Trees":

"Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a Tree."

@Nancy Hart Doubt I have a knife sharp enough.

That's the only reason I never buy them. Wish the eyes weren't so deep, less to cut off.

I bought a papaya years ago, only once. I wanted to try it right away, and cut it open and ate one piece. It was delicious.
The next morning, it had no taste at all. Couldn't believe it!

I've never had a papaya either, Emma.:(. Another item for the bucket list.

When I was a kid, my grandmother and father used to talk about how good mangoes were. I assumed they were grown locally. Possibly even wild, like persimmons.

Now I wonder where they got them. There was a fruit and vegetable man who came by with a horse and wagon occasionally! I remember he did have bananas. But I wonder how he got them.

I meant to buy a mango a couple of years ago, but picked up something else by mistake. I have no idea whether you prepare them, or just eat them.

Mangoes are great just to peel, slice and eat, @Nancy Hart.

This afternoon: . Mowed the lawn (riding mower). Decided to finish spraying the fence instead of tackle the trees. At least one job would be finished. Took off about 6 pm in the other direction around the fence line. Found this, about 500 feet shy of making a complete circle !!!

    This oak tree is big. Too big to remove without some equipment, and in a difficult spot on the side of a steep hill. {sigh}

I'm thinking of just cutting the fence at the tree and continuing it on the other side. I don't want to deal with this right now. And who knows what's on the remaining 500 feet. :p

Turned around, sprayed some small trees on the dam, and quit. Stopped at the grocery store on the way home.

About an hour after putting the plants in styrofoam cups, I remembered a bunch of cottage cheese cartons I saved. .. (Didn't think long enough ;)).

Now I have 15 more things to take care of. The plants in the background is what they will grow up to be, if I don't kill them first.

Continued... I started these in sand, in glass jars, so you can see when/if the roots start. Got 15 out of 34 to take, in spite of getting a late start.

BTW, don't care much for potting soil with Miracle Grow. It started to mold in the sack after a week. I suspect because of the nitrogen, and that bag was wet inside.

Okay, I give....are these going to be "privacy" hedges? And where are they going? Inquiring minds need to know!

    Hi Pam!

Yes, privacy hedge. They may replace 4 or 5 red tips dying along the back line on the left. In fact all of them may die soon. They have grown into trees.

Got to control the kudzu creeping from the neighbor's property first. You can see it up in the trees.

(grainy picture, new phone. :p )

Also might gradually replace some of the hollies, out of view on the right, because they have thorns and are painful to trim.

Did the deed. Peeled that pineapple. Found a sharp enough knife at the farm. Used the least wasteful diagonal method, but my pineapple switched directions in mid stream.

Cut it into 8 long strips

    It's ripe. . It's sweet. . It's good. . Is it worth it?

An average size whole pineapple is only supposed to have 470 calories. I'm counting each strip as 100 (800 total).

Had two. ..My tongue feels funny. :p

I hope it (pineapple) keeps well for at least 3 days in the fridge. Prefer not to freeze it.

My dad always said to wait until after the 4th to buy watermelon.
    It's finally here. Almost.

    July 4

Just finished removing the 3rd red tip. One almost fills the truck bed. There are 16 more. They are all dying.

"They" planted English Ivy and Leyland cypress trees right behind them. The trees cut off the sun. The English ivy crept up the trunks and damaged the bark. These plants are prone to a fungus, which you can see on the leaves. Once one catches it, it spreads like wildfire. They needed to be gone anyway, long ago.

    @Pam Sellers:
I figured out a good use for the grass catcher on the Honda mower. It now sits on the floor on the passenger side of the pickup. I put things in it that I don't want to roll around, like bags of groceries. :D

More on the "new" smartphone (Samsung Galaxy S10e). [IMG]

In order to keep it from doing strange things in my pocket I have changed all the settings possible. I think.

    1. Locked all settings.

    2. Set to lock screen. Requires a double tap, but is over-ridden by the power button. Not good enough.

    3. Set to open a screen saver after that, which you must swipe. Takes care of the Bixby button, but not good enough. It started playing music once in my pocket. And just pulling it out of your pocket does the swipe.

    4. (Final) set to require a 4-digit pin number after all that. That seems to have worked.

If I am able to enter a 4 digit number just by working outdoors, I need to join a circus side show. :)

Problem is, I got a call the other day and couldn't answer it in time. There is a shortcut for phone calls, and I need to practice that.

Got a case that gives you about 1/8 inch space around the edges, so you can hold it without activating something...if you're careful.

Toying with adding a second number so I can get an additional flip phone, until this phone dies. I think it is a minimal monthly charge.

The only other option I can think of might be to find a small hard box and put the phone inside wrapped in bubble wrap. :D

ps. The dead zones out in the woods are no different, or smaller, than with the old phone.
