I know I'm a bit geography challenged, but where is this?

Bess, it's on the Ohio River.

The Fairgrounds, Hotel, and Casino are on the Southern end of the Island, away from you.

I lived 2 houses from the River Bank on the narrow channel.

@Hal Pollner Thanks! If it's above the Mason Dixon Line, I'm totally lost. :D

I grew up on an Island in the Atlantic called Newfoundland. Spectacular scenery.
    Short summers.

Martha's Vineyard, Vineyard Haven, Ma. The 1720 House. Back in 1959-1962.
Was owned by the niece of William Randolph Hearst at the time. we rented for $90/mo., and should have bought ('cept we couldn't afford it at the time).... for $30,000. Sold a few years back for about $1.5 M. Rent now in the summer (the whole house) for only $8400/week..

Tom, I love Martha's Vineyard! We used to go there every summer, and stayed at a cabin in West Tisbury. You were lucky to be able to live there.

My late husband and I always loved islands. When we retired, we moved to Bainbridge Island in Puget Sound, a short ferry ride from Seattle. We lived there for 18 years and thought we'd stay there forever, but old age and health concerns (my husband), brought us back east to Maryland, where our son lives. . I am happy where I live now, but there's something special about an island.
