Dad's Army Here's an old one that I had never heard of before. It showed up on a search when I was looking for something entirely different, and it's hilarious. Our British members will probably remember this one, somehow it had escaped me until today. I've only watched about twenty minutes of the first episode so far but it has certainly gotten off to a good start, anyhow. Dad's Army is a BBC sitcom about the British Home Guard during World War II, and broadcast from 1968 to 1977. Apparently, there was also a radio version and a feature film. The Home Guard consisted mostly of those who were too old to be conscripted into the military. IMDb Wikipedia
Thanks! Added it to my watch later list and will check it out. No one does comedy better than the British.
Its a definite favourite for me, love the characters in it Mr. Mannering (as its pronounced) is so good as a very pompous man (but somehow loveable)
Oooh lord... it was a Classic show 50 years ago in my parents day.. and we've had endless repeats of it ever since.... it's wayyy past it's sell by date!!
One of my favourite episodes is where 'Mannering' tries wearing a wig - his portrayal was superb Still watch the show and always will
This is a senior's forum. A large part of what we talk about, be it movies or music or experiences, are things that occurred a long time ago. But in this case, it's new to me. I had never heard of it before.
yep it sure is a senior forum, but this was set during the war ...,, maybe I'm too young for this forum..hmmm....
Yes, it was set during the war, but it first aired during the late 1960s and 1970s so it was still on the air long after I graduated from high school. Probably, the only reason I hadn't come across it is because it was a BBC show, which didn't air here as often or as long as it may have in Britain, if at all.
Yep it was watched by my parents during the 60's and 70's.. and it's been on constant repeats ever since. Perhaps familiarity breeds contempt!!
Yeah, but those ships have sailed and now we are stuck with crap. One of my favorite British shows is Keeping Up Appearances.
@Bess Barber - true, that's why I still watch the older shows Mrs Bucket - sorry, Bouquet She's a real character, sadly lacking in most shows today
