Apparently the "Old Guard" of the Democratic Party are concerned, as AOC is now leading the charge to have young Socialists run against all the entrenched Dems in primaries to try to ake over the Party and the Congress. We'll see how well it works. I saw her listed as a "29-year old" member of Congress, which would make her too young to run for President in 2020.
Might I mention that some viruses like Herpes seem harmless at the start because it can’t really be seen. After a few years and has fully developed, it’s too late because the damage has already begun and is practically irreparable. Communism and Socialism are both products that seemed harmless at first (and even beneficial) but in the end, hurt a couple of billion people in various nations around the world.
Senator Sherrod Brown of Ohio would be the best candidate. He hasn't declared yet. The others so far, not Warren, are not declaring for president but for vice president. Expect me to be insulting to the Republicans to the extent most of you are to Democrats. And don't give me no lip. Don't feel entitled to insult with impunity and get no response from me and then try to skewer me for behaving on the same level as you. You know who you are, LOL.
I see the Democratic candidates as Ten-Pins and the President as a Bowling Ball. If Joe Biden is still standing, then Make That Spare! Hal
A good analogy, however I see it differently. I see the president standing in the lane, ball in hand, and he's forgotten what he is supposed to do. He thinks about Lincoln and the days before Lincoln when his carriage pulled into the main compound of the plantation and a tall man in starched uniformed announced his presence. His mind drifts to the present where he sees all those people who look differently, who speak differently, who have invaded the congress. He hears a voice from the carriage saying, "But, darling if we send them all back, who will pick up after us?" He is conflicted. He slings the ball and and it slides into the gutter. He doesn't mind; he doesn't understand. He wonders how his friend in north korea would handle this game. After all, It is a complicated process.
Contrary to Bill Boggs vision I see the president looking around the venue and other players. Being a business man, not a professional politician he comments on the decrepit condition in parts of the place. True to their ways some of the other players want to divert attention from what is clearly visible to blaming the president for pointing it out. Others with really progressive thinking want the bowling alley owners to be free of the debt they owe on the building. They even want the bowling alley and surrounding area to be renovated costing non residents of that location to foot the cost. But true to his ways the president doesn't pay attention to those that want to divert attention from the reality of what he sees & keeps on talking about. Pointing out the factors contributing to the decay and how some want to do even more damage is distorted by the press. But those wise enough to see thru the media distortion want the president to continue to speak out.
@Hal Pollner When I read the thread title, I thought you were going to suggest a bowling alley where the republican marked ball would be rolled into democrat candidate marked pins and vice versa depending on the person's political persuasion. As I clicked on the thread, I was thinking how cool that would be.
@Bill Boggs , while I totally disagree with what you say, I deeply admire your gift with words in how you say it. You do have a way with words.
@Shirley Martin But it's just no quite enough. Mario Cuomo, former Governor of New York, had the gift of ability to convince everyone in a huge auditorium filled with people, that the white sheet of paper he held up was black. I hated that guy. Frank
For the Beto admirers. In his teenage years, he sounded every bit as deranged as any of the recent mass murderers. (Not to mention in his 20's being a thief, or the insider trading violation.) WASHINGTON, Iowa — Beto O’Rourke said Friday he is “not … proud” of fiction he wrote as teenager about murdering children, while acknowledging its surfacing could hurt his campaign. “Stuff I was part of as a teenager … not anything that I’m proud of today,” O’Rourke told reporters outside a meet-and-greet here. “And I mean, that’s the long and short of it.” O’Rourke’s remarks followed a report in Reuters that O’Rourke, as a young member of the computer hacking group Cult of the Dead Cow, wrote an online article about how society could work without money and, in a more disturbing missive, about killing children... “One day, as I was driving home from work, I noticed two children crossing the street. They were happy, happy to be free from their troubles. ... This happiness was mine by right. I had earned it in my dreams,” he wrote, according to Reuters. “As I neared the young ones, I put all my weight on my right foot, keeping the accelerator pedal on the floor until I heard the crashing of the two children on the hood, and then the sharp cry of pain from one of the two. I was so fascinated for a moment, that when after I had stopped my vehicle, I just sat in a daze, sweet visions filling my head.” Then this ... Asked by reporters over the weekend whether there was anything the president could do to make the situation any better, an exasperated O’Rourke did not mince words. “What do you think? You know the s*** he’s been saying,” O’Rourke responded. “He’s been calling Mexican immigrants rapists and criminals. I don’t know — members of the press — what the f***? You know, it’s these questions that you know the answers to — I mean — connect the dots about what he’s been doing in this country. He’s not tolerating racism, he’s inciting racism and violence in this country.” What a guy.
