    We all experience spousal shortcomings in one way or another. What degree of behavior unacceptable to you would it take to make you leave your spouse?

    Some may have "been there", some may have wondered when things were a little "rough". I have not been there myself. Frank

    I would never stay with anyone who was hateful, controlling or disrespectful, or who betrayed my trust. Good relationships are built on trust, mutual respect and caring.

    That said, there can be all kinds of reasons, depending on the couple and their situation. Life is too short for bad relationships.

    @Beth Gallagher
    That is SO true! And I have personally known folks who remained together despite terrible conditions, my sister and BIL are an example,

    I'm sure we all know at least one couple that makes us wonder what on earth they stay together for. :D

    Infidelity or cruelty to children would be at the top of my list.

    Theoretically, marriage is based on commitment, not based on if you still have a warm fuzzy feeling for them.
    And then sometimes, you just want to get a divorce because even the way they chew gets on your nerves.

    I wouldn't leave because of one infidelity. I would because of repeated infidelities. The only other reasons I know of for sure are abuse of me or my children.

    Abuse comes in varying degrees of intensity. for example, my sister's husband abused her physically, inflicting pain, and the two boys witnessed it, twisting arms behind her back. Big, truck-driver he-man, he was. She hoped, she told my Mother on several occasions, "Maybe today he'll drive it into a bridge abutment". Why didn't she leave him? We dunno.

    I guess the way women put up with abuse can go back to how they were raised and how they view themselves. I wouldn't stay with anyone who even hit me once because:
    1. I would no longer have any respect for him, thus love greatly diminished.
    2. It would be difficult to stay married to a dead man. :D

    There are many reasons women don't leave. Sometimes they don't have anywhere to go.

    Once again I was joking with Bess. However I will explain the comment to you. Typically a man is stronger and more powerful than a woman, so if a man raised his hand to me I probably wouldn't fight back with any success. BUT HE HAS TO GO TO SLEEP SOMETIME and I have a cast-iron skillet. Do you get it now?

    Knowingly doing something that put my life or someone elses in harm or danger.
    Marriage is an investment that requires much time and preperation in order to reap the benifits of being committed to partner for a life time. Like the stock market, the ups and downs over the years can still pay off with patience.
    This month my hubby and I have 28 married years invested in each other, and feel our benifits of staying together far out way anything or anyone on the outside:)
