Has anyone else noticed that men's ties seem to have a wider knot lately? It must be a new trend because on TV some have the wide knot, and some don't, and the difference is obvious.

Is anyone here able to tie this knot without reading the owner's manual?

Very few men can pull off wearing a bow tie. Most have that "look at me, I'm wearing a bow tie" look. Lincoln was an exception.

I don't know much about tying ties. Maybe it's just that the ties are wider, so it makes the knot wider, but I don't think so.

This is going overboard, don't you think? :p

I hardly ever see a man wearing a tie these days except on the nightly news and I mostly ignore that drivel. My husband wears one about once a year for a wedding or funeral. He wears the plain ole' Windsor Knot.

    @Nancy Hart
I really like the knots on the # 2 and # 5 ties you posted. They are quite unique.
I rarely see a man in a tie. They don't even wear them to church much, especially in Florida.
I miss the look. I think a man in a pressed shirt and sharp tie looks.........worthy enough to be looked at twice. :)

The collars of the shirts have changed and help to make a tie that has changed, look odd. They are over-thinking the knot....

My late husband hated to wear a tie, but had to wear one for court appearances (he represented the state's interest in some trials and hearings). He had a collection of ties, most of which had fish on them. He also had some of the ugliest ties in creation, purposely bought for that purpose alone (if he was going to have to wear a tie, he was going to have fun doing it....)

One of his ties looked like a fish, like this but his was a bass:

He wore the bass tie to court one day. After the hearing, the judge called him over and said, "_______, that is a righteous tie and I really like it, but don't let me see that tie in my courtroom again." He retired the bass tie after that.

A man was driving around one day and decided to stop and get a beer at a small bar.

Walking in, he was greeted by the bartender who said, "Sir, we have a dress code here. You need a tie to be served."

"A tie? This is just a bar, not a fancy restaurant!"

"I know, sir, but we do have our requirements and we require a tie."

Still puzzled, he returned to his car to see if he might just have a tie there. He checked his trunk.....maybe there was some drycleaning back there. Nope, no tie. Nothing but a set of jumper cables.

OK, he thinks, I'll improvise. He looped the jumper cables around his neck, tied them in a knot and returned to the bar.

"Sir!" said the bartender. "I told you that you needed a tie! That's just a set of jumper cables."

"I do have a tie!" the man exclaimed, indicating the jumper cables around his neck. "It's around my neck, it's tied in a knot and that makes it a tie!"

"OK," growls the bartender skeptically, "BUT DON'T START ANYTHING!"
