Please Cody, do not compare your reasons for not working to Holly’s.
For one, her husband is the main bread winner who puts in a whole bunch of hours each day to make ends meet.
And two, her maladies go back years and she still put in her time on the workforce.

I don't think you were being hasty at all @Cody Fousnaugh just sharing your thoughts of what's going on in your life with us. Yes sure sometimes the responses aren't always what we would expect but at the same time there are things that are unknown to us about you and your wife's feelings about situations/personal prerogatives.

And, ask wife and/or I...…..we put our time in the workforce as well! And, btw, her husband isn't 70 or 71 yet either. Just saying.

Just thought the replies would show more compassion, not so much of...….."get your butt back to work!" Heck, my wife doesn't even know about this thread and would drill me again about what I write about on this forum. Her version is...."are you like the Dr. Phil Show or Jerry Springer Show and put all of your dirty laundry out there for folks to know about?"

Well, I do feel for you and your wife. I made up my mind to not return to work at age 58 because it was difficult to find a job in my field that didn't consider my age and how long I would stay on the job.

I see that you support your wife's intent and that's what matters, right?

It's just like some other threads I've done asking or telling about something and get the replies like "it's none of your business what someone else does!". All I was doing is asking or telling something and...……..

Holly can no longer work due to her physical problems/pain and I'm the same way.
Totally wrong , I chose to take early retirement at 64 ( I believe you were younger than that)..because I was standing for 10 hours a day without any rest, and my herniated discs and my displaced kneecap couldn't take that any more. fortunately I'm able to afford to retire.. and no claim Unemployment benefit, because I'm not searching for another job and the requirement is that if you are claiming Unemployment then you need to be searching for a job.. and I'm not looking..I've worked for 50 years that's enough!!..however the back , the knee, and the osteoarthritis , and several other issues wouldn't prevent me getting another type of job, maybe part-time, sitting at a desk, or one where I could walk and sit during my shift, if I wanted or needed one or there was any available ... and if I needed the money as you do, I would be looking for that kind of employment!!... As I don't need it... you can have mine if you like!!
Or you could always sell your boat and not have that extra expense.

Holly READ part of your reply here! "Herniated discs and my displaced kneecap". Remember, I'm a former EMT, like Ken was, as well as working for a Senior Healthcare Company for 4 1/2 years. I know what injuries are and how they can force a Senior out of a career. So, I am NOT totally wrong. The current health problems you have would have a lot to do with keeping another job. Perhaps not getting one, unless the company required a full physical, like I had to get before.

Holly, I've already stated that we are doing ok, financially. IOW, we don't necessarily need the money, my wife pretty much just wants to go back to work. We aren't living on the street or anything like that!! In fact, we are getting ready to buy two tickets to see the last Star Wars movie this December and we've already bought two tickets to a major rodeo here in January 2020. Sure doesn't sound like people with financial problems!

That isn't going to happen! It will happen in the next year or two, but definitely not now. The "extra expense" is only $60 per month for storage. It's our entertainment and Seniors need entertainment.

Actually, Holly, I'd like to see either one of us in a McDonalds Hamburger uniform or Walmart vest. :D

There are plenty of decent, hard working people wearing those. (Who probably don't have the luxury of not "wanting" to go to work.)

So if you both don't need the income then there are plenty voluntary positions out there for Mrs F. she could probably start tomorrow if she tried !!

Holly, there was a "key" word I said...….."necessarily" need the money, but, like many, could use it. Neither of us want volunteer work...….End of that story!

BTW, just got our Star Wars tickets for December. Only $14 for the both of us. That will be our "Date Night". LOL
