If I choose not to go to the dining room, as I will not do this evening, I'll fix my own dinner. Not a problem here. Which is why I shop often. Our menus leave much to be desired. I think our regional dietician must be drunk when she signs off on such abominable choices.
Maybe a good stiff drink is what she needs! I started buying Marie Calendar frozen dinners and so far the ones I have chose are better than what I cook or they serve at the senior center. $13 for tray service is crazy! I am seriously looking into an independent living community with assisted close by in the event I ever have to go there. So far any senior place that I can afford to live is run down.
Faye, I do have a good stiff drink now an again. We aren't run down by any stretch of the imagination, but be careful. Much of it is window dressing. When it comes to food, often our chefs hands are tied due to budget constrictions so we get third quality cuts of meat and fruits out of season which rot over night. It's a wonder I'm not a downright alcoholic. lol.
Lois, Sad that they have to cut back on food quality and use foods that should go to homeless shelters. A good stiff drink can certainly change ones attitude and reduce stress, resulting in improved health.
Hey, that thing look GOOD!!! I'm going to attempt to make one for my grandson next time he spends a weekend with me.
I enjoy cooking and until moving to Assisted Living did my own in pretty good fashion because I had a larger kitchen and all the appliances. My kitchen now is much smaller with just a nice fridge, microwave and minimal equipment. I keep snacks and wine, cheese, crackers etc. but have no intention of doing any cooking when I can partake of some outstanding meals here at Oakmont. It cost me $12 to have a dinner guest and $8 for a lunch or breakfast guest.
Well, there is the natural kind which contains more of the original peanut oil, so you have to stir it because the oils float to the top. I don't like the taste as much, plus it has a stickier texture. One would surely get used to it if it was used for awhile. I do like the sugar free peanut butter cups you can get at the grocery store. Sort of expensive, but nice to have around if I get a craving for that particular taste.
I never cooked except the few times my wife was ill when the kids were small. Never appreciated good wine until almost retirement. A good meal to me was a pound of boloney and a loaf of fresh bread. Sometime liked a little mustard thrown in and maybe a slice of tomato or two, a green onion. We're getting close to great holiday dinner now with most of the fixings.
I Would love to have you or any SO member as my guest. Chrissy Cross is 15 minutes from me but I don't believe she would come.
