@Von Jones Nice paint job and colour. Amazing how a paint job can make things look new and fresh.

Thank you Micki. Yes it does. When I first saw the color I loved it then the price just blew me away at $2.50 for the quart.

@Von Jones Looking at the photos, the hinges don't look painted over so you must be a steady handed painter. It looks really great. My hands are not that steady. Painting over hinges is a big NO NO Fayette for me, because my dad did it except when selling a house. Then everything was taken apart and painted and reassembled with new hinges, knobs, and handles. It upset my mom.

@Faye Fox I guess if the hinges were
It upset your mom for painting over or the new hardware?

Painting over the hardware, unless we were going to sell. I learned that not only can I do a better job by taking off doors, but it really takes less time, especially with power screwdrivers and painting with a mini roller. I am a slow and a bit sloppy brush painter.

I see I didn't finish my thought because I was interrupted.

If the hinges were attached outside of the doors that makes a difference and I wouldn't want to paint over them. These hinges were inside and not noticeable.

This conversation is beneficial on planning my next project of painting the bathroom cabinets which do have the hinges attached on the outside. I would remove the doors.

Excellent! Will you use a roller or brush? Also do you use the cleaning stuff that softens the old finish? For bathroom I get the latex enamel or a high grade latex that is made for moisture and easy cleaning. I don't regret paying the extra for it as now I can take 409 and a rag and clean off residue without damaging the paint.

I will be using those small tube rollers again. My choice will be the high grade latex - any recommendations of a brand with the primer and paint combo?

As for prepping I'm not really sure because it's just a wood stain considering that liquid orange stuff that I've seen used on several how-to videos. Whichever I choose I'll have to wait until I am able to have good ventilation.

Behr is a good brand of paint that is reasonably priced at Home Depot. It can be used without a primer with good results. I would sure clean that old oil stain good. I use Jasco TSP for cleaning if finishing with latex or latex enamel. Use it undiluted for initial cleaning and then just wipe with a wet cloth and let dry before painting. I use it diluted for cleaning walls before painting. Great stuff!

I hate taking off cabinet doors. I just use a small artist brush around the hinges. You can also use a Qtip and some nail polish remover to take any paint off of the hinge. Like I said, I'm a lazy painter. :)

I only like white or gray paint. I've never stained any wood. I admire you for planning to give it a go.

You have more patience than me. I would rather remove the doors than all that fine detail work.

This sounds like something I would think to do 'Qtip and nail polish remover.' My mom would call it 'improvising.' She taught me that.

Living in apartment is easier than home owning for us. For many reasons our patio was beyond cleaning. So by 7 am I got her done. Nothing special but looks much better.
I have gotten rid of most big plants so these are all that are left.

I fell in love with the fact that this house had a fireplace unfortunately we are unable to use it for it's purpose but I loved it just the same the perfect place to grace with pictures of family. Well, one day recently as I sat looking at it I wanted more space for more pictures, so the hunt began...

    Mantel project 062020.jpg
I was outback clearing away overgrowth when I noticed that neighbors behind me had pitched what looked like an entertainment stand. It was all broken down in pieces to fit inside the waste container. My initial thought "What are they thinking? The city is not going to collect their container with those pieces of wood in there." Then my second thought as I walked over to it examine the condition of those pieces, "Hmmm, those might be useful." They were not only clean but solid so I started gathering those pieces that I could use for shelving.

Out of those pieces were two very long ones which it occurred to me they might, just might be right for my mantel. So I carried them inside and they were perfect.:)

True to every letter 'One man's trash is another man's treasure."

With the help of my grandson here is my new mantel. It extends over and out so there is more room for pictures. I am so tickled.:D

More of a 'Get 'er done' project.

My son's rental home has a huge backyard and he wants to set things up for the kids mostly. A couple of weeks ago at the flea market I spied this tent and pointed it out to him. He passed it up but then went back and bought it for $40 bucks.

It was a bit much for him so I volunteered to help. 'Early', I said 'I'm not good to do something like this in the afternoon plus it's been hot and humid.'

So around 8:30 we tackled it and three hours later we got 'er done.

It's nice and HUGE! Great for the kids. It even can be separated in two sections for privacy.

My son said 'It can stay up all the time even in the winter.' I chuckled inside. It was a monster to set up though so I understand why he said that. :D
