One thing I've taken to is a pinch of salt in my coffee... a habit picked up while visiting Holland.

Occasionally I’ll try a new coffee and if the first pot is a little too bitter, I will add salt to the grounds the next time before I make the coffee. It does take some of the harshness out and makes it a more palatable experience.

I've never considered salt in coffee and, offhand, it still doesn't sound like a good idea.

Yeah, folks who like Miracle Whip probably wouldn’t like salt in their coffee.

Come to think of it, there’s actually some coffee infused salt out there! And, coffee ice cream has a touch of salt in it.

...it gives a rounder flavor while seemingly exposing coffee's umami

My Gevalia thermos broke itself the other day (when I dropped it), so I had to buy one - a DuraFlask, which is supposed to keep coffee hot for a long time, although an hour or two is all that I need for most purposes. The coffeemaker shuts its hotplate off before I've finished my first cup of coffee sometimes, so when I come back for a second, it's lukewarm, at best. There is a button that's supposed to keep the hotplate on longer but it doesn't seem to do that, so I like to pour a cup of coffee, then pour the rest into a thermos for later. Plus, a thermos is nice to have when I travel to my land up north because there aren't very many places to get coffee along the way unless you count gas station coffee.

Since I now have to drink the dreaded Half Caff, the salt sure couldn't possibly make it taste any worse. I think I'll try it in the morning!! :D

No, but I tried Turkish cigarettes once and if the coffee and tea is anything like the cigarettes, I'll pass.

Based on what I've read about the tea and the coffee, on Amazon, I'll pass also. I tried the cigarettes, too.

Didn't work for me. It then tasted both grainy AND salty. :D
However, I have very bland taste buds. I don't use spices too much anyway.
