@Joe Riley , like the wise man you are you were right, things are working out. Speaking of that wisdom, where are the little stories and tibits of interesting information that I had gotten so use to that I am noticeably missing? You too @Ike Willis, it it post holiday blues? If you're busy, tell us about it. @Chrissy Page , I hope your traveling is safe, and that you have an enjoyable visit. I'm really surprise that you haven't had to use your SS card. Here is Texas, a SS card is needed for many things. You can't get a job without having one for photo coping at the point of hiring. @Lara Moss . I agree!!! But it seems our different states do not agree upon the need of SS cards. I've always wondered why at the time of renewing our driver's lisence, they don't update the SS card with a picture on it as well. That would make it harder for people to steel a person's identity. I've had to let employees go when I found out that the SS card was stolen, and then I had tons of paper work to fill out to report the illegal use. I would always include a copy of the employee's employment photo that I insisted we get. @Sheldon Scott , I hope you and your's are doing fine. I was wondering if we had lost you, or if I just wasn't seeing your posts. @Bonnie Thomas , I looked up your area around 290, and your not kidding about the road work. So it looks like the city is eating up your side too. That is what is happening on my side as well. The good thing is that our property's value is going up, and the bad news is so are our taxes. I've been here 63 years, and I am amazed at the growth of the city of Houston. @Ruby Begonia , Do you make the little birdie outfits? If so, I'll place an order for a dozen at this time. Do you provide someone to catch and dress the birds too? What a service, you'll make a fortune. They do say think outside the box. @Diane Lane , I love you picture of the spider's web. I admit I would have stood right there and watched the different colors reflecting in the dew drops of the web. I can do so much more in a controlled atmosphere than I can outside. Breathing can can to be a problem with all the humidity we have around this area. @Holly Saunders , I got a feeling it's going to be a wonder if I learn all new stuff I seem to need for this new life I'm wading through. I'll sure be a lot happier when the scary parts go away. I don't know if I can be happy on my own, but I think I'm about ready to see.
Good Morning everyone...6am, and you won't be surprised to learn dark, raining and gale force winds.. It's my last day at work for this week...this is the 2nd weekend off in a row...wow that almost never happens !! Very safe journey to you Chrissy Page today, in the rainy weather Have a wonderful day everyone whatever your day has ahead for you..
Mornin. The weather here is warming up. There is only about an inch of snow on the ground here on Iowa's east shore. It's overcast but I think our deep freeze weather is over. Still could get a good snow, but not like the east side of the country. Anyway, I woke up feelin great. Had a few pretty rocky days this week. Turned out I wasn't eating enough. Ate better yesterday and slept better last night. I used to laugh at my old auntie M. She used to say she would forget to eat. Now I'm understanding how that can happen. Anyway, it's Friday. Just another day to me, since I retired. I remember when Friday had a whole different meaning. When I was a school boy, Friday meant the next two days I would be free, sort of. Every other Saturday morning, mom made dad take me to get a haircut. Then on Sunday morning, it was church. And, Saturday morning was wash day at our house. I had to help with that. Saturday was the day I usually mowed our huge lawn, except during summer vacation, then I did the lawn during the week. That was an all day job. Guess I didn't really have much free time after all. When I was out of school and working full time though, Friday was my freedom. Had a car, had money and had some friends. And, we ran amok for two days. One of my friends was related to a bar owner, so obtaining beer was no problem. The drinking age was 21 then, but we were 18 or younger. There were dances at the local YWCA on Friday nights, and parties in neighboring towns. Life was good. Friday's took on a whole different meaning, after I married. More family time was the rule then. The wife had to be included, then the kids, then maintaining and improving the house, cars, lawn. The chores just never ended. So now, all that is behind me. Friday is just another day. More lousy TV to watch, more hours online, more naps.
I was sittin' here reading posts and kept hearing a noise outside. I got up to listen and it was a hoot owl. I opened the door so I could hear better, He was pretty close but it was too cold to keep the door open or go outside. Animals must think it's spring. Canada geese have been coming around for a couple of weeks. I see hawks flying overhead calling each other. I need to put up a calendar outside so they'll know it's still winter.
I add my congratulations, Ina! I have a feeling that your time spent serving the Veterans, will rejuvenate you, as only selfless service can do. Bless you.
Good morning, big storm coming (well it's here but not bad yet) so I've been salting my driveway/sidewalk/steps and cleaning the fireplace, lugging in firewood and kindling in case I lose power from the ice on trees. Probably an overkill.
Haha, better than not being prepared, @Lara Moss. I hope the storm's not too severe. It's amazing what a huge area it's affecting. We had tornado watches in the area yesterday, but as far as I know, nothing bad happened. I watched the storm rolling in/through. It's 39 here right now, but doesn't seem that bad. I was out on the balcony checking out the sunrise a bit ago, and for some reason the cold doesn't seem to be bothering me as much this year. Good Morning, everyone! Hope everyone is doing o.k. Stay safe, especially if you're in the bad weather areas.
Good morning to all my online friends. I didn't get to sleep until well after 2:am. It's weird, but whenever we get a change in the weather, I have a hard time sleeping. Problem is this is south Texas on the gulf, and our weather changes a couple of times a week. That's when I watch the recorded shows that I didn't get to see through the week. I know it is selfish, but I am glad the holidays are over. Maybe this year I will make better plans for the holidays, instead of hiding from them. Now things are settling down, and we all have more time for some online fun. @Ike Willis , it is really good to hear from your funny grumpy self. I've noticed that when your feeling well you can turn any event into a story. I sometimes think men are better at this than women.
Sorry I missed this one about your good news Ina, too much gadding about on my part So belated congratulations from me, it sounds like you will be doing really valuable work
For some reason, past experiences keep coming back to me. Sometimes, a word or picture, or even a smell will bring on stuff I'd forgotten about.
Good afternoon everyone, I made it to my daughter's and the drive wasn't as bad as I feared. Only had heavy rain for about 30 mins. Also good news regarding my mom, she is sitting up and awake for the first time in almost 2 weeks. The tracheotomy went well yesterday although she is still not breathing on her own. Now she will be able to eventually eat and talk. Still getting fed thru tube but one step better than thru IV. My sister was able to communicate with her for the first time....my mom wrote on a paper. My sister also said she appears "normal" meaning she didn't have too much oxygen loss to her brain when her pulse stopped and she quit breathing. My daughter and her husband leave very early tomorrow morning for Hawaii and I get to supervise a 17 and 12 year old....oh joy! The 12 yr old is an angel and no trouble at all. The 17 yr old drives and can be a stress causer. He's also a good kid but very social.
@Terry Page , don't you worry so about not keeping up with everything here, You'll be back and then we can pick on and catch you up on everything. So enjoy seeing the world, and showing us places we can only dream of. So have fun and show us just how much. @Ike Willis , I don't think memory is so much an age thing, as a recalling of what made or makes us feel happy. I'm starting to be able to do this with my past family without so much pain. One of you will tell a memory, and one of mine will pop up, and I'm starting to be happy and thankful for this. So I'll gladly read your memories.
@Chrissy Page , Oh, you know you love it all. Now your watching your oldest grandchild leaving his childhood. I remember how it felt to be an observer, and you get to add just the right touch every once in a while. Are you the type of grandmother that spoils or rules? So while your having fun, remember to tell us the funny part, and I' sending vibes your way that nothing sticky pops up on your watch. (((Hugs)))
