Oh yes for sure Lois...and really nothing wrong with falling into slang or talking in different dialects at all.. what I'm referring to is actual ignorance of our own home country by some of us, and being embarrassed by a foreigner knowing much more...about our country and we know nothing or very little of theirs..
This is true, Holly. Did you know that a large percent of the American born population cannot pass a citizenship test?
I don't mind there being other choices available but, in an English-speaking country, let's let the default be English. I don't want to push extra buttons for English. I have come across a few ATMs here in Maine where I had to choose between English and Spanish, but most don't. There aren't very many Spanish-speaking people in Maine, in case you're wondering. I don't think the people in the Mexican restaurants even speak Spanish.
Facebook has switched my language to Portuguese three times now, and I don't know what that's about. It takes me four clicks to switch it back to English, so I don't see how I could be doing that accidentally, unless there's a shortcut language thing that I don't know about but click accidentally,
