I am extremely friendly, and so are most of my neighbors. Despite its reputation, I find most New Yorkers are friendly and helpful toward each other
And I love that London accent! Was on a subway train last week and struck up a conversation ('cause I'm so friendly!) with a young man, his baby daughter & his mother-in-law. After a bit, I said to him "Is that a LONDON accent I detect?" He was thrilled I was able to pinpoint his slight accent. I told him when I lived in England I was able, within about 5 miles, to tell a speaker where they were from. He told me most people thought he was Australian and complimented me on being a great linguist. Love all British accents.
Unless I already know you I'm not going to make the first move towards getting to know you...but if you talk to me first I will answer you. So I guess that doesn't make me very friendly. My Honey however talks to everyone and knows everyone around us by name...which he shares with me. I'm more a listener than a talker...I also find if a lot easier to be friendlier and more social online than face to face.
At our 25th Wedding Anniversary dinner last night, I visited 3 neighboring tables to tell the other diners about it! I also reminded them that this was the first day of Summer, which meant it was the longest day of the year. I then reminded them that it was also the shortest NIght, so don't let that go to waste! @Hal Pollner. I reckon I am a friendly sorta person. I do enjoy talking and playing with people from other parts of our vast world. As for neibors.. I get along with some others not so. I pretty much respond to someone who has responded to me. We did not talk to one of our next door neibors for a decade until we got to talking at a Christmas street party. Are now good mates.. all that time wasted on petty squabbles.
I'm friendly. I enjoy talking to all kinds of people. My philosophy is that everybody on Earth knows something I don't know. If I listen, they will tell me then I'll know, too.

I run hot and cold, for my mood sometimes doesn't come near to making me a very friendly person. Usually I am quite approachable and since I've had to deal with the public, it would never do to be hostile. Especially in the medical profession. I generally exchange a word or two with neighbors and when visiting my son, socialize quite a bit with extended family and friends.
~*~ I think the crime rate here where I live has the same effect. It keeps me from wanting to be friendly. I don't visit with the neighbors. Nothing.
